Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma Inaugurates AI Technology Company iMerit

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the AI technology-based company iMerit at Shillong IT Park, Umsawli, on Friday, in the presence of Radha Basu, Founder and CEO of iMerit. He described Shillong as an ideal location for IT-enabled companies, stating, “The government has initiated interventions to create an ecosystem where IT-enabled services can thrive. We are implementing projects to ensure fast and reliable internet connectivity across the State.”

Discussing the importance of data-driven governance, Sangma highlighted, “Data is a crucial element that the government uses to make informed decisions and maximize impact with limited resources.” He noted that technology is being utilized to streamline various initiatives, including monitoring maternal and child health and mapping the State’s diverse vegetation, flora, and fauna. The Chief Minister emphasized the role of technology in developing smart solutions and encouraged companies to invest in and explore the potential that the State offers. “Technology is the backbone of a well-functioning society, and we are working diligently to leverage information and technology for more efficient governance,” he added.

Sangma also encouraged the local workforce to seize the opportunities presented by the growing number of IT companies in Shillong. He pointed out that iMerit, an international brand with a significant local presence, works with renowned clients making a global and local impact. The Chief Minister expressed his expectation that the local workforce would demonstrate their worth through hard work, commitment, and diligence.

Radha Basu, CEO and Founder of iMerit, praised the Meghalaya Government’s focus on technology and AI as growth drivers. “This aligns perfectly with our mission at iMerit, where we develop AI solutions for societal applications while creating meaningful employment opportunities for young people,” she said. iMerit is a global AI solutions provider with over 5,000 employees across the United States, Europe, Turkey, Bhutan, and India. In Meghalaya, iMerit employs over 200 people, with 64 percent of the workforce being women.
