“Our Rajasthan” — The Transformation of Rajasthan Roadways: A Testament to Good Governance, Vision, and Public Service Commitment of the State Government
810 New Buses and 352 Contracted Buses Have Transformed Roadways
December 2025 | Jaipur : A robust transportation system is the backbone of any state’s infrastructure, forming the foundation for progress and the ease of daily life. It is not merely a means to travel from one place to another but a critical support for economic activities, social connectivity, and meeting the daily needs of the common people.
In a vast state like Rajasthan—the largest by area in India, with over 5% of the country’s population—the importance of reliable and affordable transportation multiplies. From students attending schools and colleges to working professionals, farmers, traders, and ordinary passengers, a significant part of daily life is connected to the services of Rajasthan Roadways.
A New Chapter of Revival
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma believes that to make Roadways fully modern and competitive, renewing its fleet is essential. With the formation of the current government, efforts began to revive Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation Limited (RSRTC), which had long struggled with losses, aging buses, and declining passenger numbers.
Under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s leadership, decisive steps have been taken to provide affordable and accessible transport to the public. Supervision was strengthened to increase transparency and efficiency in operations. Effective control over diesel wastage, a major contributor to losses for years, was established. Route planning, bus operations, and resource utilization were systematized, leading to a significant increase in passenger numbers and average kilometers covered by buses daily. These reforms energized Roadways’ daily operations and stabilized its system, giving rise to the modern image of Roadways today.
The most notable outcome of these consolidated efforts is that the operational deficit, previously around ₹1,000 crore annually, has reduced to approximately ₹300 crore. This reduction is considered one of the most significant reforms in the history of Rajasthan Roadways and is seen as a direct result of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s visionary policies, proactive leadership, and reform-oriented approach.
810 New Buses and 352 Contracted Buses That Transformed Roadways
To provide passengers with safer, more comfortable, and timely travel, 810 new buses were purchased, and 352 buses were added under contracts. The addition of new buses not only improved passenger safety, comfort, and punctuality but also positively impacted Roadways’ revenue through expanded networks and better services.
The continuous welfare-oriented decisions by the state government demonstrate that this transformation is only the beginning. In the near future, 800 more new buses will be added to the fleet. This expansion will ensure better bus services across more areas of the state and aim to fully eliminate Roadways’ shrinking deficit, making it a profitable entity. The government plans to elevate Roadways with modern technology, safe travel, and financial self-reliance to a level where it continues to make a significant contribution to the state’s development.
The transformation of Rajasthan Roadways stands as a testament to good governance, accountability, and citizen-focused policies. Under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s leadership, Rajasthan’s public transportation system is moving forward with renewed direction and energy, signaling that this positive change will continue to strengthen in the times ahead.
