Rajasthan Government Marks Two Years with Compassion for the Homeless
Jaipur, December 2025 : As Rajasthan witnesses severe cold wave conditions affecting daily life, with temperatures in several cities dipping below 10 degrees Celsius and further drops expected, the harsh weather has hit the homeless the hardest. Recognising this reality, Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma has demonstrated sensitivity and commitment towards providing dignified shelter to the homeless across the state.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the state’s double-engine government is determined to support the most vulnerable sections of society. Guided by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Rajasthan government is providing free shelter and essential facilities to urban homeless persons through permanent shelter homes constructed under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Urban Livelihoods Mission of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
To ensure that no needy person is left without shelter during cold waves, rains, or extreme summer heat, the state government is operating 238 permanent shelter homes across 138 urban local bodies, with a total capacity of nearly 12,000 individuals. These shelters are equipped with all basic amenities as per guidelines, including clean drinking water, electricity, toilets, kitchens, and geysers.
In addition, based on local requirements, 139 temporary shelter homes with a combined capacity of around 9,435 persons are being operated in 109 urban local bodies. These temporary shelters are also fully equipped with essential basic facilities to ensure safety and dignity for the homeless.
The state government’s numerous welfare schemes, being implemented under the Chief Minister’s leadership, reflect the spirit of “service to humanity is service to God” and are aimed at the all-round development and welfare of every citizen of Rajasthan.
It is noteworthy that at the beginning of 2024 as well, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma personally visited night shelters, interacted with residents to inquire about their well-being, and distributed blankets to destitute people living on the streets, reinforcing the government’s humane approach towards the homeless.
