India Outclass South Africa by 7 Wickets, Take 2-1 Lead in T20I Series
Dharamsala, December 2025: India produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat South Africa by seven wickets in the third T20 International at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Exploiting helpful conditions and executing their plans with precision, the hosts never allowed the visitors to settle, sealing a comprehensive victory with more than four overs to spare.

Winning the toss, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav opted to bowl first, a decision that proved decisive almost immediately. The Indian pace attack tore through the South African top order, reducing the visitors to a precarious 7 for 3 inside the first three overs. Arshdeep Singh set the tone by dismissing Reeza Hendricks for a duck in the opening over, while debutant Harshit Rana struck twice in quick succession, removing Quinton de Kock for 1 and Dewald Brevis for 2.
South Africa’s struggles deepened when Hardik Pandya claimed his 100th T20I wicket by dismissing Tristan Stubbs for 9, leaving the Proteas reeling at 30 for 4. Amid the collapse, captain Aiden Markram stood firm, playing a lone hand of substance. His fighting 61 off 46 balls, which included six fours and two sixes, provided some respectability to the total. Donovan Ferreira chipped in with 20, while Anrich Nortje added 12 down the order, but support was largely absent.
India’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure in the middle overs. Varun Chakaravarthy (2/11) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/12) were outstanding, strangling the run flow and picking up key wickets. Arshdeep finished with figures of 2/13, while Rana impressed again with 2/34, as South Africa were bundled out for 117 in their full quota of 20 overs.
Chasing a modest target of 118, India came out with intent. Abhishek Sharma launched a blistering assault at the top, smashing 35 off just 18 balls with three fours and three sixes. He added 60 runs for the opening wicket with Shubman Gill, who played a composed knock of 28 off 28 deliveries. The strong powerplay, which yielded 68 runs, effectively sealed the contest early.
After Abhishek’s dismissal, Tilak Varma anchored the chase calmly, remaining unbeaten on 25 off 34 balls. Suryakumar Yadav contributed 12 before falling, while Shivam Dube finished the match in style with an unbeaten 10 off four balls, including a six and a four. India reached 120 for 3 in 15.5 overs, completing a convincing win.
With this emphatic victory, India have regained momentum after the series was levelled 1-1. The focus now shifts to Lucknow, where the fourth T20I will be played on December 17.
