India and Jordan Reaffirm Strong Partnership Against Terrorism
Amman (Jordan), Dec 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday strongly endorsed Jordan’s consistent and principled stand against terrorism, extremism and radicalisation, saying that India and Jordan share a clear and common position in confronting global security threats. Addressing a delegation-level meeting with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, the Prime Minister underlined the growing convergence between New Delhi and Amman on counter-terrorism and regional stability.
“We share a common and clear stance against terrorism. Under your leadership, Jordan has sent a strong and strategic message to all of humanity against terrorism, extremism and radicalisation,” Prime Minister Modi said. He added that the issue figured prominently in the restricted discussions between the two leaders, with both sides agreeing to further enhance cooperation in this critical area.
Recalling his long-standing engagement with the Jordanian leadership, Prime Minister Modi praised King Abdullah II’s efforts to promote moderation and dialogue. He referred to their first meeting a decade ago on the sidelines of the United Nations in 2015, which was centred on countering violent extremism. “Even then, you delivered inspirational remarks on this subject. Your efforts to promote moderation are extremely important not only for regional peace but also for global peace,” the Prime Minister noted.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised that India and Jordan would continue to work closely to strengthen all dimensions of their partnership. “We will continue to move forward concretely in this direction together and further strengthen our mutual cooperation,” he said, highlighting the shared values and trust that underpin bilateral ties.
This visit marks Prime Minister Modi’s first full-fledged bilateral visit to Jordan. He had earlier transited through the country in February 2018 while travelling to the State of Palestine. Expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation, the Prime Minister thanked King Abdullah II for his friendship and commitment to India. “You have shared very positive ideas for taking India-Jordan relations to new heights,” he said.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan. He described the milestone as a source of inspiration for deepening engagement in the years ahead. “This anniversary will continue to inspire us to move forward with renewed energy. I am confident that today’s meeting will give a new impetus and depth to our relations,” he said.
Highlighting future areas of cooperation, Prime Minister Modi said India and Jordan would work together in sectors such as trade, fertilisers, digital technology, infrastructure and people-to-people exchanges. He stressed that expanding economic and technological collaboration would benefit both nations and further strengthen bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Amman on Monday afternoon, beginning a three-nation tour that also includes visits to Ethiopia and the Sultanate of Oman. The tour reflects India’s focus on countries with which it shares deep civilisational connections as well as strong contemporary partnerships.
In a special diplomatic gesture, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan personally welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the airport, underlining the importance Jordan attaches to the visit. The two-day visit is taking place at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein.
Speaking during the meeting, King Abdullah II highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations and expressed confidence that the visit would open new avenues of cooperation. “This visit reflects decades of friendship, mutual respect and productive cooperation between our two nations,” the King said.
He added that India and Jordan share a strong partnership and a common desire to advance prosperity for their people. Over the years, bilateral cooperation has expanded across several sectors, and the King said Prime Minister Modi’s visit provides an important opportunity to chart new paths of economic collaboration in areas such as industry, information and communication technology, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and energy.
Both leaders expressed optimism that the discussions would further strengthen India–Jordan relations and contribute to regional peace, security and shared growth.
