Telangana CM Seeks Centre’s Support for Education Expansion
Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday met Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and sought support for the establishment of Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS) across the state.
The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that the Telangana government plans to set up 105 YIIRS, which aim to provide quality education directly and indirectly to nearly four lakh students. Highlighting the scale of the project, he stated that the construction of YIIRS and other educational institutions would involve an estimated investment of Rs 30,000 crore.
CM Revanth Reddy requested that loans raised for this massive educational initiative be exempted from Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limits, citing the long-term human capital benefits of the programme. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Congress MPs Kiran Kumar Chamala, Dr. Mallu Ravi, Suresh Shetkar, and Anil Kumar Yadav during the discussions.
This is a follow-up to an earlier meeting in September when Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka had met FM Sitharaman to seek financial support and FRBM exemption for the Rs 30,000 crore YIIRS programme. At that time, Vikramarka emphasized that the initiative would transform education and nutrition for lakhs of children, empower marginalized communities, and strengthen India’s demographic dividend.
The YIIRS project is intended to address key challenges in providing quality education and nutritious meals to students, ensuring long-term development and opportunities for children across Telangana.
In addition to discussions with the Finance Ministry, CM Revanth Reddy also met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to seek approval for establishing an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad. He informed the Minister that 200 acres of land have been identified for the institute and that a transit campus is ready to begin classes immediately. He assured that the state government would provide all necessary support and facilities once approvals are granted.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also requested sanctioning nine Kendriya Vidyalayas and sixteen Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas to match the increased number of districts in Telangana. He confirmed that the state government is prepared to provide the required land and infrastructure for these schools to ensure smooth implementation.
The visit underscores the Telangana government’s focus on strengthening education infrastructure, promoting inclusive development, and enhancing access to high-quality schooling for students in both urban and rural areas.
The Centre’s support, especially in terms of FRBM exemptions and approval for national-level institutions, is seen as a key step toward achieving the state’s ambitious education and skill development goals.
