PM Modi Elevates India-Ethiopia Ties to Strategic Partnership

New Delhi, Dec 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ethiopia on Tuesday marked a major step in India-Ethiopia relations, as both nations upgraded their ties to a strategic partnership.

During the visit, multiple agreements were signed to strengthen cooperation across key sectors. These included an Agreement on Co-operation in Customs Matters, an MoU to establish a Data Centre at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and an Implementing Arrangement for UN Peacekeeping Operations Training.

In finance, India agreed to an MoU on Debt Restructuring for Ethiopia under the G20 Common Framework.

Education and capacity-building also received a boost, with India doubling scholarships for Ethiopian students under the ICCR programme and introducing short-term Artificial Intelligence courses for students and professionals through the ITEC programme.

Healthcare collaboration was expanded as India pledged support to enhance maternal and neonatal care at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Addis Ababa.

The agreements reflect India’s commitment to deepening ties with Ethiopia through technology, education, healthcare, and global peacekeeping initiatives, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
