MoU signed between ‘Mahatransco’ and ‘Mahagenco’ for a 765 kV transmission project

Mumbai, December 2025 : To further strengthen the state’s power transmission network, an MoU has been signed between Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (Mahatransco) and Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Company (Mahagenco). The MoU was formalised in the presence of Mahatransco Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and Mahagenco Chairman and Managing Director Radhakrishnan B.

Both power companies have decided to jointly submit bids under ‘Tariff Based Competitive Bidding’ (TBCB) for a 765 kV capacity transmission project.

Present on this occasion were Mahatransco Director (Operations) Satish Chavan, Director (Projects) Avinash Nimbalkar, Director (Finance) Mrs. Trupti Mudholkar, Chief Legal Advisor Vijay Patil, Chief Engineer (TBCB) Amit Naik; and from Mahagenco, Director (Finance) Manesh Waghirkar, Director (Projects) Abhay Harane, Chief Legal Advisor Dr. Kirti Kulkarni, along with other senior officials.

This collaboration will combine Mahatransco’s expertise in the transmission sector with Mahagenco’s technical capability in executing large power projects. The coming together of these two state-owned companies for 765 kV category projects is being viewed as a significant step for the state.

These new projects will enhance transmission capacity and help strengthen grid stability.

Competitive Strength of State Enterprises:
The partnership between two major state energy companies is expected to reduce project costs and improve quality.

Meeting Future Needs:
Considering the increasing electricity demand in the future, the 765 kV system will become the backbone of the “power corridor.”

This strategic decision will further reinforce Mahatransco’s position as a leading state transmission utility in the country. With this coordination with Mahagenco, large-scale projects will be implemented faster and with greater technical efficiency.
