Mahayuti Dominates Maharashtra Local Body Polls, BJP Emerges as Top Force: CM Fadnavis
Nagpur, Dec 2025 : Buoyed by the Mahayuti alliance’s emphatic performance in Maharashtra’s recently concluded local body elections, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday declared that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has been virtually “wiped out” from the state’s political landscape. Addressing a public event in Nagpur, Fadnavis said the results clearly reflect the people’s renewed faith in the BJP-led NDA’s development-oriented governance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Highlighting the scale of the victory, the Chief Minister stated that nearly 75 per cent of municipal council chairpersons across Maharashtra have been elected from the Mahayuti alliance, while the MVA managed to secure only around 50 chairperson posts. “The BJP is the number one party in these elections. Out of the total municipal council chairpersons elected, about 210 belong to the Mahayuti, whereas only 50 have come from the Maha Vikas Aghadi. This shows that the MVA has been decisively rejected by the people,” Fadnavis said.
He further pointed out that the BJP has recorded the highest strike rate among all parties, with nearly 65 per cent of the elected chairpersons belonging to the party alone. According to him, this performance underlines the BJP’s strong grassroots organization and its growing acceptance among urban and semi-urban voters.
Providing details on councillor-level results, Fadnavis said close to 3,000 councillors were elected from the Mahayuti alliance, of which 48 per cent are from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Calling it a historic achievement, he noted that such a high proportion of BJP councillors is unprecedented in the state’s local body elections. “This is a record in itself. The public has once again expressed confidence in our government and endorsed Prime Minister Modi’s politics of development and trust,” he said.
The Chief Minister also claimed that several traditional opposition strongholds had been breached. “Congress-dominated areas in Nagpur have been dismantled. We have made the Saoner Municipal Council Congress-free. These results indicate a clear shift in public mood,” he added, expressing confidence that the Mahayuti would continue its winning momentum in upcoming municipal corporation and district council elections.
Voting for 286 municipal councils and town councils across the state was conducted in two phases, with polling held on December 2 and December 20. The counting of votes began at 10 a.m. on Monday. As per preliminary figures, around 129 municipal council presidents have been elected from the BJP, while the three Mahayuti partners—BJP, Shiv Sena, and the NCP led by Ajit Pawar—together account for nearly 75 per cent of all municipal council chairperson posts.
Fadnavis also noted that more than 3,300 BJP candidates have been elected as councillors statewide, further consolidating the party’s dominance at the grassroots level. He described the results as a strong mandate for stable governance and a clear signal that Maharashtra’s electorate continues to stand firmly with the NDA’s vision of development and good governance.
