PM Modi Hosts Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra and Wife Himani Mor at Lok Kalyan Marg
New Delhi, Dec 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hosted India’s celebrated javelin thrower and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra and his wife, Himani Mor, at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The meeting highlighted the Prime Minister’s continued engagement with sportspersons who have brought global recognition to the country through their achievements.
Sharing glimpses of the interaction on social media, Prime Minister Modi described the meeting as warm and meaningful, noting that discussions covered a range of topics, including sports and issues related to athletic development in India. “Met Neeraj Chopra and his wife, Himani Mor at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg earlier today. We had a great interaction on various issues, including sports, of course!” the Prime Minister posted on X.
Neeraj Chopra has emerged as one of India’s most iconic athletes in recent years. He etched his name in history by becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, achieving the feat at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. His consistency on the global stage continued with a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in 2023 and a silver medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024, further cementing his status as a world-class athlete.
Beyond his sporting accomplishments, Chopra has also been recognised for his service to the nation through his association with the Indian Armed Forces. Enlisted in the Indian Army as a junior commissioned officer with the rank of Naib Subedar on August 26, 2016, he served with The Rajputana Rifles. In October this year, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conferred upon him the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. Subsequently, on April 16, 2025, President Droupadi Murmu awarded Lt Col (Honorary) Neeraj Chopra an honorary commission in recognition of his outstanding achievements and exemplary contribution to the nation.
Over the years, Chopra has received several prestigious honours, including the Padma Shri, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the Arjuna Award, the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, and the Vishisht Seva Medal. These accolades reflect not only his sporting excellence but also his discipline, dedication, and role as a national inspiration.
The 2025 season proved to be another milestone in Chopra’s illustrious career. He competed in multiple international events and clinched victories in four competitions, including the Paris Diamond League and the Neeraj Chopra Classic held in Bengaluru. In May 2025, he achieved a historic feat by becoming the first Indian athlete to breach the 90-metre mark at an international competition. His throw of 90.23 metres at the Doha Diamond League surpassed his previous personal best and national record of 89.94 metres, set in 2022 at the Stockholm Diamond League.
Prime Minister Modi had then congratulated Chopra, praising his relentless dedication and discipline, and describing the achievement as a moment of immense national pride. The recent meeting at Lok Kalyan Marg once again underscored the government’s recognition of sporting excellence and its commitment to encouraging athletes who continue to raise India’s stature on the world stage.
