JLN Medical College Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Begin in Ajmer

Jaipur, December 2025 : On the completion of 60 years of its establishment, the two-day Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Government Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College began in Ajmer on Saturday. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Speaker of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Shri Vasudev Devnani, Medical Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Khimsar, Ajmer South MLA Smt. Anita Bhadel, along with hundreds of alumni of the medical college working across India and abroad, and several eminent doctors from across the country.

Addressing the ceremony as the chief guest, Assembly Speaker Shri Vasudev Devnani said that medical service is a noble profession and doctors must uphold the highest values in their lives. Service to the motherland, he said, is the greatest service of all. Doctors should always remember this and perform their duties towards the nation and society with complete dedication. A doctor, he said, is like God for a common person. Along with treatment, when a doctor works with compassion, sensitivity, and a caring touch, patients recover faster. A sense of empathy, he added, is the greatest mantra of healing.

Shri Devnani traced the history of the institution, stating that it began as a dispensary in 1851, became a large hospital in 1895, and was established as a medical college in 1965. He said the state government has given major boosts to Ajmer’s medical sector over the last two years. Approval of ₹190 crore has been granted for a super-specialty block in Ajmer, to be executed in three phases. Once completed, patients from the Ajmer division will no longer need to travel to Jaipur or Delhi for specialized treatment. Funds have also been allocated for the construction of new medical college buildings, of which 80 percent work has been completed. Additionally, ₹50 crore will be spent on the renovation of JLN Hospital, and a satellite hospital is being constructed in the Kotra area.

He appealed to doctors and alumni to contribute towards the development of their alma mater, which is the second-largest hospital in the state after Jaipur. Emphasizing modern advancements, he said there is a need to expand genomic, robotic, and AI-based medical services. He also recalled the contributions of senior doctors Dr. S.K. Arora, Dr. S.R. Mittal, and Dr. L.K. Nepalia in strengthening medical services in Ajmer.

Medical Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Khimsar said that in the last two years, Rajasthan has achieved new milestones in the healthcare sector. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, thousands of crores of rupees have been allocated to the medical sector. Patients from Rajasthan can now receive treatment in major hospitals of other states as well. He emphasized that public trust in doctors is unwavering and urged medical professionals to maintain this trust.

The minister further stated that around 50,000 healthcare personnel, including doctors, nursing staff, and other support staff, have been recruited in the state over the past two years. The government is working vigorously to develop Rajasthan as a medical tourism hub. He appealed to major hospitals to extend medical services to rural areas, assuring full government support. He also highlighted that significant budget provisions have been made for expanding healthcare services in Ajmer and that hospital construction is being carried out using scientific methods and expert planning.

Ajmer South MLA Smt. Anita Bhadel highlighted the college’s glorious journey, achievements, and future prospects, praising its contribution to medical education and healthcare services. She said that the memories and achievements of doctors trained at this institution, who have brought pride to Ajmer and Rajasthan across the world, will continue to inspire current students. Their experience, dedication, and spirit of service will motivate future generations of medical professionals.

She noted that when the medical college was established nearly 60 years ago, its infrastructure and facilities were limited. By 2025, it has emerged as a strong center of modern medical facilities, super-specialty services, advanced technologies, and innovations in healthcare—an outcome of the state government’s efforts. As new and complex diseases emerge, advancements in medical technologies and treatment methods are ensuring better, faster, and more effective care for patients.

On the occasion, Rajasthan Public Service Commission member Dr. Ashok Kumar Kalwad, Principal Dr. Anil Samaria, Superintendent Dr. Arvind Khare, and several senior doctors were present. An exhibition was organized, and philanthropists and doctors were honored for their notable services.
