KTR Accuses Congress of Reversing Telangana’s Progress, Alleges Land and Irrigation Mismanagement

Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing them of dismantling what he described as a “golden Telangana” built over a decade of BRS rule. He alleged that the present dispensation had stalled development, pushed key regions back into distress, and betrayed the trust of farmers and rural communities.

Addressing a gathering of newly elected sarpanches in Nagarkurnool district, Rama Rao said Telangana’s economic growth during the BRS tenure had significantly boosted land values, particularly in Hyderabad, where prices had soared to as much as Rs 150 crore per acre. He claimed this growth was a direct outcome of BRS policies that focused on infrastructure creation, irrigation expansion, and industrial development.

KTR, as he is popularly known, alleged that the Congress government had undone years of progress in the Palamuru region, comprising parts of Mahabubnagar and surrounding districts. According to him, Palamuru, once known for chronic drought and migration, had been transformed into a green and prosperous region under former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). However, he accused the current government of pushing the area back into distress by stalling irrigation projects and neglecting development works.

“Palamuru was revived under KCR’s leadership. Today, without lifting even a handful of soil, the Chief Minister is resorting to abusive rhetoric. Congress has once again turned Palamuru into a migration district by cancelling projects and drying up irrigation,” KTR alleged.

He claimed that despite being in power for nearly two years, the Congress government had failed to complete even 10 per cent of the works initiated during the BRS regime. Highlighting the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, KTR said that nearly 90 per cent of the work had been completed under the KCR government. He accused the Congress of cancelling approved tenders after coming to power, thereby crippling the project and jeopardising farmers’ livelihoods.

Rama Rao further alleged that the Revanth Reddy government had compromised Telangana’s legitimate water allocations, causing severe hardship to farmers dependent on irrigation. He announced that KCR was preparing for another phase of struggle to protect the Palamuru–Rangareddy project, defend Telangana’s water rights, and stand firmly with farmers. He said the former Chief Minister would soon visit Palamuru and called upon the people of the region to support the movement.

Touching upon the agrarian situation, KTR accused the Congress government of replacing the “Rythu Bandhu” era with what he termed “Ra-Bandhu” or “vulture rule”. He alleged that farmers were being forced to stand in long queues for urea fertiliser, even in cold weather conditions. “Revanth Reddy has no concern for farmers. During KCR’s tenure, there was never a shortage of urea. Fertilisers were supplied on time and as per farmers’ needs,” he said.

The BRS leader accused the Congress of coming to power with unrealistic promises and deceiving the public after assuming office. He said the Chief Minister resorted to abusive language whenever questioned about the implementation of poll promises, even after completing two years in office. KTR challenged Revanth Reddy to publicly take an oath assuring uninterrupted urea supply and implementation of the promised Rs 4,000 pension scheme.

Claiming that “wherever Congress is in power, there is no progress,” KTR said Telangana was now witnessing the same pattern. Expressing confidence in a political comeback, he asserted that the Congress government had only two more years left and that BRS would return to power thereafter. “Only a KCR-led government can restore development, prosperity and dignity to villages,” he said.

Separately, Rama Rao reiterated allegations that the Congress government was selling away 9,300 acres of prime industrial land in Telangana, worth nearly Rs 5 lakh crore. Responding on social media platform X to a post by Congress MP Karti P. Chidambaram regarding the sale of Infosys land in Karnataka, KTR claimed the situation in Telangana was far more serious.

“These prime lands were allotted by the government at concessional rates for employment generation. The Congress government has no right to sell them and make money for their kith and kin,” he wrote, demanding that such lands be returned to the government for public use.

He argued that Telangana needs land for schools, hospitals, housing for the poor, parks, bus stands and parking facilities, rather than private real estate projects. Earlier this month, KTR had alleged a massive land scam under the Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy, claiming industrial lands meant for job creation were being diverted for apartments, villas and commercial complexes.

He further alleged that while the market value of these lands was around Rs 1 lakh per square yard, the government was handing them over to private individuals for as little as Rs 4,000. Warning real estate developers, KTR said that once BRS returns to power, it would reclaim these lands and put them to public use.
