From Bihan Yojana to Delhi: ‘Lakhpati Didi’ Lata Sahu to Be Honoured on Republic Day

Raipur, Jan 2026 : The journey from a small village in Kabirdham district to recognition in Delhi has been made possible through the Bihan Yojana, under which ‘Lakhpati Didi’ Lata Sahu will be honoured on Republic Day for her inspiring achievements.

Lata Sahu, a resident of village Semo in Kabirdham, joined the Bihan Yojana, part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission, aimed at empowering rural women economically and socially. Her story exemplifies how self-confidence, hard work, and the collective strength of a women’s self-help group (SHG) can transform lives.

Earlier, Lata Sahu’s financial condition was modest, and meeting the family’s daily needs with limited income was challenging. At this critical juncture, she joined a women’s SHG—a decision that proved to be a turning point in her life.

Through the group, she developed a habit of savings and also availed a livelihood loan. Using the loan effectively, Lata Sahu started a tent and catering business. What began as a small-scale venture gradually became a stable and significant source of income. Her dedication, timely work, and commitment to quality helped her business expand steadily, leading to a substantial increase in her monthly and annual earnings. Today, she is widely recognized as “Lakhpati Didi”.

Beyond personal financial empowerment, Lata Sahu now meets her family’s needs with self-respect and independence. Her success has inspired other women in her SHG, motivating many to pursue self-employment and strive for economic independence.

Lata Sahu credits her achievement to the Bihan Yojana, saying, “The Bihan Yojana gave me confidence. With the strength of the group and proper guidance, I stand on my own today.” Her journey from a modest background to becoming an inspiration for the entire Kabirdham district highlights the transformative impact of rural livelihood programs.

In recognition of her accomplishments and as a tribute to her entrepreneurial spirit, Lata Sahu will be honoured in Delhi on January 26, Republic Day. This recognition is not only a proud moment for her but also a source of pride for the entire district, celebrating the success of women empowerment initiatives under the Bihan Yojana.

Lata Sahu’s story exemplifies how government schemes, collective efforts, and personal determination can empower rural women to achieve financial independence and inspire others to follow the path of self-reliance.
