All colleges to complete course mapping on ‘SWAYAM’ portal by January 15 : ACS Shri Rajan
Additional Chief Secretary for Higher Education Anupam Rajan held a review meeting on Tuesday at the Mantralaya with the chairpersons and members of the Central Boards of Studies responsible for developing 35 vocational courses on the ‘SWAYAM’ portal. He conducted a detailed review of the portal’s progress and course mapping and issued necessary directions.
ACS Shri Rajan directed that the mandatory mapping of all existing vocational courses with the ‘SWAYAM’ portal be completed by January 15, enabling students enrolled in these courses to avail academic credits. He instructed that new and other employment-oriented courses being run on the ‘SWAYAM’ portal should be grouped and integrated to enhance students’ skills and enable them to compete effectively at the global level. ACS Shri Rajan also emphasised that, in addition to vocational courses, all subjects—both minor and major—must be mapped with ‘SWAYAM’ courses.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner, Higher Education Shri Prabal Sipaha, Officer on Special Duty Professor Anil Pathak, SWAYAM Portal Nodal Officer Dr. Diva Mishra, and members of the Central Boards of Studies.
Madhya Pradesh Leads in Enrolment for Non-Technical Subjects; Over 350% Growth
Madhya Pradesh is the only state in the country where enrolment in non-technical subjects exceeds that in technical subjects. Nearly 2 lakh students (57%) from the state have enrolled in non-technical courses, while around 1.5 lakh students (43%) have enrolled in technical courses. Over the past years, enrolment in the state has recorded a growth of more than 350%, reflecting sustained and planned efforts by the state government.
‘SWAYAM’ (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a program launched by the Government of India to achieve the three core principles of education policy: access, equity, and quality. The initiative aims to make the best ‘Teaching-Learning’ resources accessible to all, including the most disadvantaged sections.‘SWAYAM’ seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have so far remained untouched by the digital revolution and have been unable to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.
Improved Facilities in Colleges
Additional Chief Secretary Shri Rajan directed that cleanliness, adequate drinking water facilities, regular classes and faculty attendance be ensured in colleges. He stated that the process of filling vacant posts is underway and emphasised the need for special focus on further strengthening academic systems in higher education institutions.
