Free housing provided to 2,409 flood victims, efforts ongoing to help remaining victims
Lucknow : In response to the recent floods across Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government has intensified relief efforts to ensure that those affected receive timely assistance. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been closely monitoring the situation in 34 flood-hit districts, guiding the relief operations to prevent any disruption in aid to the affected communities.
Over the past 40 days, the government has extended relief assistance to 9,41,232 people in the flood-affected regions. Additionally, free housing has been provided to 2,409 beneficiaries whose homes were damaged by the floods, with efforts underway to assist the remaining four affected households.
Over 16 lakh population affected by floods so far
Relief Commissioner GS Naveen highlighted that currently 34 districts of the state are affected by floods. This includes Lakhimpur Kheri, Balrampur, Kushinagar, Shahjahanpur, Barabanki, Sitapur, Gonda, Siddharthnagar, Ballia, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Azamgarh, Hardoi, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Badaun, Farrukhabad, Basti, Deoria, Mau, Moradabad, Rampur, Maharajganj, Unnao, Pilibhit, Banda, Jalaun, Bulandshahr, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Hapur, Bijnor, Saharanpur, and Shravasti.
He informed that in total, over 16 lakh residents, including those in 89 villages, 42 urban wards, and 153 cut-off villages across 34 tehsils, have been affected by the floods. So far, the state government has provided relief assistance to 9,41,232 people in these areas. Tragically, 17 lives have been lost in the disaster, with the state government offering financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to each bereaved family. Additionally, 29 cattle have perished, and compensation has been provided to the affected cattle owners.
The floods have also damaged 2,413 houses, and free housing has been arranged for 2,409 beneficiaries, with efforts ongoing to support the remaining four. Moreover, 286 public assets have been reported damaged due to the floods.
Disaster victims provided help through 1629 flood posts
The Relief Commissioner further informed that at present 3,17,255 hectares of land in the state is affected by floods. To aid those affected, 2,191 boats and motorboats have been deployed, and 2,38,617 food packets along with 8,24,522 lunch packets have been distributed. In addition, 55 community kitchens (langars) are actively serving meals, and more than 2,272 quintals of fodder have been provided for livestock.
He said that a total of 1,374 flood shelters have been established, with 1,629 flood posts and 2,716 medical teams working to ensure the safety and health of the affected population.
So far, 17,884 people have been evacuated to safer areas. The state government has also distributed 13,11,871 chlorine tablets and 3,61,186 ORS packets to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases. Currently, 3,797 people are residing in flood shelters, receiving ongoing support and care as the state navigates this crisis.
