Grand Kite Festival Celebrated Across All Seven Divisions on Makar Sankranti
Jaipur, January 2026: On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the Rajasthan Tourism Department organized the historic Grand Kite Festival 2026 simultaneously across all seven divisions of the state for the first time. Under the joint supervision of the Tourism Department and local administration, the festival was held in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Kota, Bikaner, and Bharatpur on Wednesday.

Jaipur: Kite festival at Jal Mahal – The main event at the historic Jal Mahal was inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Deputy CM Diya Kumari, and Hawa Mahal MLA Balamukund Acharya by flying kites and releasing colorful balloons. Jaipur residents and domestic and international tourists enjoyed the vibrant display of local culture, music, and performances. Folk performances included Langa singing, Kalbeliya dance, Mayur dance, Gair dance, Bhapang music, Chang Dhamal, Dholak and Kacchi Ghodi dance, Pad Dangal, Band music, Bahurupiya, Puppet dance, Ravana Hatha music, and Shehnai ensemble, along with live commentary in Hindi and English.

The festival featured kite exhibitions, live kite-making demonstrations, fancy kite flights, and free distribution of til laddoos, gajak, revdi, and dal pakoras. Foreign tourists enjoyed free kites and camel rides.
Bharatpur: A grand kite festival was organized at MSJ College Ground with the presence of officials including the Collector, CEO, District Council, and media.
Jodhpur: The festival at Gandhi Maidan saw participation from locals, school children, and foreign tourists, with kite flying and traditional sweets. Tourists from Israel and France added an international dimension.
Bikaner: At the Raisar Sand Dunes, locals in traditional attire flew kites, including the traditional Chanda kite, with hundreds of tourists participating.
Ajmer: The Anasagar Chowpati hosted the festival with vibrant kites and performances, including Kacchi Ghodi dance, attended by local officials and tourists.
Kota: A festival was held at City Park with 300–400 students participating, provided free kites by the Tourism Department.
Udaipur: In the City of Lakes, colorful kites filled the sky like butterflies.
Jaisalmer: At Shaheed Poonam Singh Stadium, the festival was organized with participation from the CEO and Sub-Divisional Officer.
Mount Abu: At the Polo Ground, the festival was inaugurated by the District Collector of Sirohi, attracting a large number of tourists and children.
The festival was successfully organized by the District Administration, Municipalities, and Tourism Department across all locations, highlighting Rajasthan’s culture, tourism, and festive spirit.
