Deliberations on Synthetic Methane and Low-Carbon Fuel Opportunities
On the second day of the World Economic Forum Davos visit, Additional Chief Secretary for New & Renewable Energy Shri Manu Shrivastava held detailed discussions with Shri Filippo Comelli, Head of Origination & Business Development at TES-H2, on potential opportunities in the fields of synthetic methane and low-carbon fuels.
TES-H2 is among the world’s largest international producers of synthetic methane, with commercial operations across multiple countries. During the meeting, the company shared its global perspective and provided insights into its ongoing programs in India. The discussions highlighted the growing role of synthetic methane in the maritime sector, India’s potential emergence as a major LNG importer in the future, and the country’s increasing focus on biogas and clean fuel alternatives to gas-based power generation.
Highlighting the state’s strategic relevance, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Shrivastava stated that the Hazira–Vijaipur–Jagdishpur (HVJ) gas pipeline passing through Madhya Pradesh, along with biogenic CO₂ sources from agriculture-based industries such as sugarcane, provides a strong foundation for the development of low-carbon-intensity fuels.
Both sides agreed to continue discussions to identify potential pilot projects and collaboration pathways aligned with India’s clean fuel transition and Madhya Pradesh’s low-carbon development objectives. The dialogue reflects the Government of Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to partnering with global clean-energy leaders to advance next-generation fuels and sustainable industrial solutions.
Principal Secretary, Industrial Policy & Investment Promotion, Shri Raghvendra Singh and Commissioner, Public Relations, Shri Deepak Saxena were also present on the occasion.
