Flight of Courage: From Homemaker to Entrepreneur, Fulfilling Her Dream of Becoming a Self-Made Millionaire Sister
Lucknow, January 2026 : Under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) is bringing transformative change to the lives of rural women across Uttar Pradesh. This government initiative goes beyond financial aid, empowering women to become self-reliant and move towards creating employment. The policy is based on training, financial support, and direct market linkage, ensuring that women in villages are no longer confined to household roles. Ritu from Bijnor district is a shining example of this transformative change.
How Life Changed
Ritu, a resident of Firozpur Narottam village in Devmal block, relied on her husband’s daily wage for livelihood a few years ago. With limited and uncertain income, meeting household expenses was challenging, and the future seemed uncertain. In 2022, Ritu joined the Lakshmi Self-Help Group, which became the foundation for the transformation in her life.
Confidence to Move Forward
Under the NRLM, Ritu received entrepreneurship training, access to savings and loans, and continuous guidance to start her business. The Yogi government’s vision is for rural women to stand on their own feet and earn a livelihood with dignity, which instilled in Ritu the confidence to move forward.
Starting Small, Achieving Big
With support from the Livelihood Mission, Ritu launched “Vidur Café”. Starting with limited resources, the café has now become her identity. Ritu earns ₹6,000–7,000 daily. Once struggling to manage household expenses, she now confidently handles her family responsibilities and plans for the future. Her success has also created employment opportunities for other women in the village, strengthening the spirit of self-reliance among them.
Training, Opportunity, and Recognition Through the Group
Women no longer need to travel far for work—they now find respectable employment within the village, creating positive social changes. Ritu says that joining the self-help group brought her training, opportunity, and recognition. The Yogi government’s schemes showed her a path forward. Her story demonstrates that with clear policies and ground-level support, successful and sustainable businesses can flourish even in rural areas.
Rural Women Becoming Partners in Change
Under CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, rural women across the state are witnessing transformation firsthand. Through the NRLM, the government is empowering women economically by providing self-employment opportunities. Success stories like Ritu’s prove that self-reliance in Uttar Pradesh is no longer just a policy—it is a tangible reality on the ground.
