CHANDIGARH, Sept 2026 : BJP leaders were chased away by villagers in Toor Banjara, Sangrur, when they reached the village over the death of Gulzar Singh, with villagers surrounding Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and raising slogans against him. On this, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia said that the development has exposed, they said, the BJP’s attempt to exploit the pain of a poor Dalit family for political gains.
Senior AAP leader and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia stated on X: “BJP tried to do politics over the pain of a poor Dalit family in Punjab, but the villagers showed them the mirror. When BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon reached the village to bake his false political bread, the villagers surrounded him, raised slogans of ‘Kewal Singh Dhillon Murdabad’ and did not even allow him to enter the village.”
Punjab Cabinet Minister and senior AAP Punjab leader Dr Balbir Singh said the BJP leaders had reached the village without respecting the grief of the family that had lost Gulzar Singh. “Without caring about the pain of the family drowned in grief over the death of Gulzar Singh, the BJP leaders reached the village to do politics over his dead body. The people of Punjab immediately sent them back and exposed their opportunistic politics,” Dr Balbir Singh said.
Dr Balbir Singh said, “Kewal Dhillon, Ashwani Sharma, Sunil Jakhar and Manpreet Badal should remember that on the soil of Punjab, people never forgive those who turn even death into a political spectacle,” he said.
Questioning the BJP’s political conduct, Dr Balbir Singh said, “Those who see a political opportunity instead of sympathy in a moment of grief, what kind of politics will they teach the people of Punjab? Punjab will never accept this disgraceful mindset of doing politics over dead bodies,” he said.
