NEW DELHI, Sept 2026 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has exposed Raghav Chadha and the BJP over an attempt to defame Punjab through the controversy over his vote. AAP National Media In-Charge Anurag Dhanda pointed out that Chadha accused the Punjab Government of getting his vote deleted on September 3, even though his vote had already been registered in Delhi on September 2.
The AAP National Media In-charge further questioned how Chadha could retain his vote in Punjab while getting a new vote registered in Delhi, and why no objections were invited on his Form 6 application. He demanded that the Election Commission explain how the process was allowed to proceed.
Addressing a press conference, AAP National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda stated, “For the past several days, there has been a discussion about how, where and when Raghav Chadha’s vote was registered. Today, the entire story has come to an end. When the Election Commission was asked when and how Raghav Chadha registered his vote in Delhi and whether it was done retrospectively, the Election Commission gave a very surprising response on Wednesday. The Election Commission stated that, according to its records, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha applied on August 26 by filling Form 6 to have his name added in Rajinder Nagar. His form was approved and, within the mandatory seven-day period, his vote was registered in Rajinder Nagar on September 2.”
Targeting the BJP and Raghav Chadha, he asserted,“The BJP’s politics is extremely cheap, and Raghav Chadha and the BJP hate Punjab and defame Punjab. The entire truth has now come out. According to the Election Commission’s official statement, when Raghav Chadha himself filled Form 6 on August 26 to apply for a vote in Delhi and his vote had already been registered on September 2, then why was Raghav Chadha crying on X on September 3, beating his chest and claiming that the Punjab Government had got his vote deleted? Raghav Chadha and the BJP are doing this only to defame Punjab.”
Anurag Dhanda further stated, “When Raghav Chadha himself signed Form 6 stating that he wanted to get his vote registered in Delhi and had all this information, why did he, 8 days later on September 3, put on this false display of distress of politics in Punjab and that the Punjab Government had got his vote deleted? The government has absolutely nothing to do with this; it is a process of the Election Commission. The BJP and Raghav Chadha are indulging in dirty politics to defame Punjab and the Punjab Government. The Election Commission is telling us that Raghav Chadha voluntarily filled Form 6 in Delhi on August 26, while on September 3 he was crying that the Punjab Government had got his vote deleted. This has completely exposed their shameless face.”
Comparing the speed at which the vote was registered, he emphasised,“After applying on August 26, Raghav Chadha’s vote was registered by September 2 at such express speed that even PM Modi’s bullet train does not run at that speed. There are many question marks over how this vote was registered, and the Election Commission will have to answer them. If the officials sitting in the Election Commission think they can put the law aside and do anything simply because Amit Shah makes a phone call and Gyanesh Kumar gives instructions, they will have to be held accountable. Raghav Chadha will also have to be held accountable.”
Raising the first set of questions, the AAP Media In-charge said, “There are two or three important questions here. First, if Raghav Chadha applied on August 26 to register his vote in Delhi, should he not have had his vote transferred from Punjab to Delhi? Did he want to have two votes in the country? Without informing the Election Commission and the BLO in Punjab that he was getting his vote deleted there and registering it in Delhi, he applied here.”
“For this, Form 8 for shifting has to be filled, through which the Punjab BLO gives an NOC, the Delhi BLO authorises it, and only then is the vote registered here. In that situation, the voter card number remains the same; it does not change. But Raghav Chadha received a new voter card number here and a new vote was registered. This means that he deceived the Election Commission and, while trying to retain his vote in Punjab, got a new vote registered in Delhi, which is legally wrong,”he added.
On the second question, he continued, “The second question is whether the Election Commission official who registered his vote checked whether his old vote had been deleted or not. Did the official obtain any NOC from Raghav Chadha confirming that he had got his previous vote deleted or transferred?”
Detailing the application’s tracking record, Anurag Dhanda stated,“The third point is why was the Election Commission moving at a special speed for one particular person? The tracking available on the Election Commission’s website shows when the application was submitted and when the final vote was registered. The tracking map for Raghav Chadha’s vote shows that Form 6 was submitted on August 26, a BLO was appointed on September 1, field verification was completed on September 2, and on the same day the form was accepted and the EPIC was generated. In other words, his vote was registered on September 2 itself and went into printing.”
Contrasting this with the experience of an ordinary voter, he pointed out, “On the other hand, a woman worker of the Aam Aadmi Party submitted Form 6 on August 5 to get her vote registered, but her BLO has still not been appointed and not even the next step has been taken. The Election Commission is moving at one speed for Raghav Chadha and at another speed for an ordinary person. What is so special about Raghav Chadha and why is his importance greater than that of any other voter? A person who applied on August 5 has still not been assigned a BLO, while the person who applied on August 26 had his vote registered on September 2.”
Anurag Dhanda asserted,“This clearly shows that the Election Commission is functioning completely under the BJP’s influence. A call comes to Gyanesh Kumar from Amit Shah’s office and he is told to get this vote registered today itself. Votes are being added and deleted in this manner, which is a complete violation of the constitutional process. Why does the principle of first come, first served not apply to votes in the Election Commission?”
He further revealed that the application had been kept outside public scrutiny, stating, “Raghav Chadha’s Form 6 was never put on the online portal for objections. His application came internally, and the matter was resolved internally before his vote was registered. It was never publicly declared that his Form 6 had been received and that anyone with an objection could raise it. This special treatment clearly shows that votes are being deleted and added across the country at the BJP’s discretion. The person whose vote the BJP wants registered gets it done in one day, while lakhs of votes of those whose votes it does not want registered remain pending, and the votes of BJP people are being registered overnight.”
Targeting Raghav Chadha over his September 3 post, he asserted,“Raghav Chadha, who himself voluntarily filled Form 6 on August 26 to apply for a vote in Delhi, after his vote was registered, went on September 3 only to defame Punjab. He is defaming the very state from which he went to the Rajya Sabha. This is an extremely shameful act of biting the hand that feeds you. It shows his hostility towards Punjab and also proves that he has no particular attachment to Punjab, because he has already got his vote registered in Delhi.”
Questioning the Election Commission over Raghav Chadha’s residential address, the AAP Delhi Chief stated, “The entire country and the people of Delhi know where Raghav Chadha lives. As a Rajya Sabha member, he has been allotted a government bungalow on Pandara Road by Parliament, and he lives there with his family. So how can the vote of a person living on Pandara Road be registered in Rajinder Nagar under the SIR? The Election Commission will have to answer this.”
Anurag Dhanda further questioned the verification process, saying, “If even a tenant moves from house number 111 to 112, the Election Commission deletes their vote saying that they no longer live there. In such a situation, how did the vote of a person whose government address is known to the entire country get registered in Rajinder Nagar, and who verified it? This raises a major question mark. Today, the Election Commission’s response has made it completely clear that Raghav Chadha harbours hostility towards Punjab and that the BJP and Raghav Chadha can go to any extent and tell any lie to defame Punjab.”
