Chinna Srinu Quits YSRCP, Joins TDP in Major Political Shift in Uttarandhra

Vizianagaram: In a significant political development in Uttarandhra, senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Majji Srinivasa Rao, popularly known as Chinna Srinu, has resigned from the party and joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), marking a major shift in the political landscape of Vizianagaram district.

Chinna Srinu, the nephew of senior YSRCP leader and MLC Botsa Satyanarayana, formally resigned from the YSRCP on Tuesday evening. In a letter addressed to party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he announced his resignation as Vizianagaram district YSRCP president as well as from the party's primary membership. He currently serves as Chairman of the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad and has been actively involved in the party's organisational activities across the Uttarandhra region.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu personally welcomed Chinna Srinu into the TDP. During the induction, Naidu draped a traditional yellow shawl, or pasupu kanduva, around him. Chinna Srinu's daughter Siri Sahasra and a large number of his supporters also joined the TDP, adding further significance to the political switch.

The development is being viewed as a setback for the YSRCP, particularly for Botsa Satyanarayana, given Chinna Srinu's organisational experience and influence in Vizianagaram. Political circles have pointed to reported differences between Chinna Srinu and his maternal uncle, along with his growing distance from party activities in recent months, as possible factors behind his decision. However, Chinna Srinu has maintained that he resigned from the YSRCP for personal reasons.

His departure comes ahead of the local body elections, making the timing politically significant. The YSRCP has been working to consolidate its organisational base in Vizianagaram, while the TDP is seeking to strengthen its cadre and grassroots network in the district.

Chinna Srinu's entry, along with the support of his followers, could provide an organisational boost to the TDP and potentially influence local political equations. The move is therefore being closely watched by political observers as both parties prepare for the upcoming electoral contests.

The coming weeks are expected to provide greater clarity on whether the switch translates into a broader realignment of political support in Vizianagaram and the wider Uttarandhra region.
