2,011 industrial units inspected between January and July 2026
Environmental compensation imposed on 44 units, closure orders issued against 33 factories for non-compliance
Clean air for Delhi is our priority; there will be no laxity towards polluters: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta
New Delhi, August 2026 : The Delhi Government is taking decisive action against pollution to provide the people of the capital with clean and healthy air. The government has stepped up monitoring of air pollution caused by industrial units and intensified action against units violating environmental norms. Under the campaign being carried out under the leadership of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, 2,011 industrial units were inspected between January and July 2026.
The Chief Minister said that during the inspections, 106 units were found to be non-compliant with the prescribed environmental standards, while 78 units were found operating without a valid Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). The government has also taken action against units found violating the rules following these inspections. Environmental Compensation (EC) has been imposed in 44 cases, while closure orders have been issued against 33 non-compliant industrial units. Action is also being taken in other cases in accordance with the relevant environmental laws and regulations.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that providing clean air to Delhi is a priority for her government. The government will extend all possible support to industries that comply with environmental regulations, but there will be no laxity towards units that violate the rules or pollute Delhi’s air. “Our objective is not merely to take action, but to ensure effective control over pollution at its source,” she said.
The government’s campaign is not limited to industrial pollution. Action is also being taken against other major sources of pollution in Delhi, including road dust, vehicular emissions, construction and demolition activities, waste burning and other polluting activities. At the same time, regular, on-ground monitoring of industrial emissions has been strengthened so that polluting activities can be identified in time and action can be taken.
The Chief Minister said that the fight against pollution is not the responsibility of the government alone. The citizens of Delhi are also important partners in this campaign. If people come across industrial pollution, the open burning of waste or other material, dust pollution, illegal dumping of waste or any activity that harms the environment, they should bring it to the government’s notice. One responsible report from a citizen can help identify polluters faster and enable timely action.
Citizens can report such activities through the Green Delhi app or the MCD 311 app. The government believes that genuine and reliable information from citizens can play an important role in identifying pollution-related violations and taking swift action against them. The Delhi Government is strengthening its inspection mechanisms, technology-based monitoring, coordination among various government agencies and citizen participation to further improve its pollution monitoring and enforcement system. The objective is to ensure that environmental violations are identified as soon as they occur and that the concerned agencies can take swift action.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the government’s efforts to ensure clean air in Delhi will continue and become more effective. “Our message is clear: industries that comply with environmental regulations will receive support and facilitation, but strict action will continue against those that pollute Delhi’s air. The Delhi Government wants to turn the fight for clean air into a people’s movement, with the government, industries and citizens working together. Through collective efforts, Delhi will move forward towards becoming a cleaner, healthier and greener capital,” she said.
