Projects including over ₹1,635-crore Barapullah elevated road to be inaugurated

New Delhi, August 2026 : To mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Delhi government will observe ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ from September 17 to October 2. During this period, the national capital will receive a major gift of key development and civic infrastructure projects. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government will inaugurate completed projects across various departments. These include projects related to transport, roads, sewerage, water treatment, education, power, public utilities, and urban beautification. Among these, the most significant is the inauguration of the Barapullah Elevated Road (Phase-III), built at a cost of around ₹1,635 crore. The Chief Minister said that the 'Sewa Pakhwada' observed on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday is dedicated to the service of Delhiites and the overall development of the capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that PM Narendra Modi, who first became the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, is soon going to complete an historic 25 years in public office. Therefore, this Sewa Pakhwada of the Delhi Government is going to be particularly special this time. She informed that among the completed projects, the elevated road over Barapullah Nallah from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar (Phase-III) is one of the most important. Apart from this, the project for the construction of an underpass on Outer Ring Road near Mukarba Chowk and an approach road from Badli Junction to Haiderpur Metro Station, built at a cost of ₹54.10 crore, is also ready for inauguration.
Major Projects in Sewerage and Water Management
She also informed that during the Sewa Pakhwada, several key projects related to sewerage and water management will be dedicated to the residents of Delhi. These include the construction of a 2-MGD recycling plant at the existing 20-MGD Water Treatment Plant in Bawana, the construction of a 564-MLD Wastewater Treatment Plant at Okhla, and the construction of an interceptor sewer from Barapullah Drain to Batla House Phase-II SPS. Along with these projects, work on a 35-MGD Sewage Pumping Station at Batla House Phase-II and rising mains to the Okhla WWTP is also included.
In addition, projects for the rehabilitation and upgrading of Wastewater Treatment Plants at Rithala Phase-I and Kondli Phase-I, II, and III will also be inaugurated. The total cost of these water and sewerage projects is ₹863.38 crore. Projects to provide household sewer connections in the left-out colonies of Gokalpur assembly constituency and laying sewer lines in parts of Sriram Colony, Rajiv Nagar, and Sonia Vihar are also included.
Strengthening Education and Civic Amenities
The Chief Minister informed that in the education sector, the inauguration of a G+3 permanent school building in Sector-16, Dwarka, is proposed during Sewa Pakhwada. Apart from this, the construction of 68 G+3 equivalent SPS classrooms in East Vinod Nagar and 76 equivalent SPS classrooms in Sector-41, Rohini, has also been completed. The costs of these three projects are ₹38.44 crore, ₹38.30 crore, and ₹66.28 crore, respectively. Under civic amenities, the construction of a public toilet in AP Block, Shalimar Bagh, and the beautification work of three roundabouts at Filmistan, Jhandewalan, and Veer Chandra Garhwali Chowk are ready for inauguration. In the transport sector, projects include a new ATS developed by redeveloping the old I&C Center at Burari and the establishment of a four-lane ATS at Tehkhand.
Expansion of Power Infrastructure
She also shared that several sub-station projects strengthening the power infrastructure of the capital will be inaugurated during Sewa Pakhwada. These include the A1-A4 Grid Sub-station, an underground sub-station at Karkardooma East Delhi Hub, 66/11 KV Grid Sub-stations at Arjangarh and Bakkarwala, and sub-stations of various capacities in Okhla Phase-I, Sheikh Sarai, Bakkarwala Village, Guru Nanak Enclave, M-Block Uttam Nagar, Ranhola Village, and Kalkaji. The total cost of these power projects is ₹232.42 crore. Along with this, projects like a two-storey community hall near Golok Dham in Bijwasan, Dwarka, renovation of Balmiki Chaupal in Basant Village, R.K. Puram, reconstruction of Sisodia Chaupal in Malikpur, and the construction of a protective wall along the Barapullah Drain have also been completed.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Sewa Pakhwada being observed on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday is dedicated to the service of Delhiites and the holistic development of the capital. The projects being launched during Sewa Pakhwada are proof that the Delhi Government is working with full commitment to strengthen the capital's infrastructure and improve sanitation, water and sewerage systems, traffic, education, power, and civic facilities. These projects will directly benefit lakhs of citizens living in different areas of Delhi and will help make their lives smoother, safer, and more convenient.
