Seventh Cultural Evening ‘Bharat Ke Rang’ enthrals audience with Odissi, Bharatanatyam and Kathak performances
Raipur, September 2026: The seventh cultural evening of the internationally renowned 41st Chakradhar Samaroh-2026, being held in Raigarh, witnessed captivating performances by students of the Dance Faculty of Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh.
Artists from the university presented Odissi, Bharatanatyam and Kathak, bringing the diverse traditions of Indian classical dance alive on stage. The seamless combination of expression, rhythm, beat and intricate dance movements mesmerised the audience.
The cultural evening began with a ‘Ganesh Vandana’ by students of the Odissi Department. Through a soulful rendition of “Ekadanto Lambodaro Vighnavinashako Devah”, Jaya Nirmalkar, Sudha Yojan, Pragya Prasad, Meera Verma, Durga Prasad, Leena Dhankar and Ricky Tudu brought the worship of Lord Ganesha alive through expressive dance movements. The performance was choreographed by Sushant Kumar Das.
This was followed by a ‘Nrityanjali’ by students of the Bharatanatyam Department, showcasing the expressive gestures and rhythmic intricacies of the classical dance form. The performance was composed by Lavanya Anand and choreographed by Dr Medini Hombal and Horil Gaur. Horil Gaur, Preeti Chaudhary, Khushboo Bhumij, Anukriti Singh, Avani Jain, Aditi Sharma, Anjali Chauhan and Yamini Nishad participated in the performance.
‘Bharat Ke Rang’ Showcases India’s Cultural Diversity
One of the highlights of the evening was ‘Bharat Ke Rang’, which emerged as a major attraction for the audience. The performers brought the spirit of Vande Mataram to life through the classical traditions of Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Odissi.
The performance highlighted India's rich cultural diversity through the distinctive movements, expressions and rhythmic patterns of the three classical dance forms. It was choreographed by Sushant Kumar Das, with Horil Gaur serving as co-choreographer.
Kathak’s Spiritual Grandeur Reflected in Shiva Vandana
The next presentation featured research scholars and students of the Kathak Department performing a Shiva Vandana based on “Niratat Shankar Parvati Sang”, composed by the late Pandit Birju Maharaj in Raag Hansdhwani and Teentaal.
Through Kathak's intricate rhythmic patterns, footwork and expressive movements, the performers portrayed the divine forms of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on stage.
The performances by the students of Khairagarh University enriched the seventh cultural evening of Chakradhar Samaroh with the diversity of Indian classical dance and the colours of the country's rich cultural heritage.
The students' dedication, artistic presentation and collective coordination effectively showcased the living tradition of classical Indian arts on the prestigious Chakradhar Samaroh stage.
