Mumbai, October 2026 : The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday appointed its Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Zeeshan Siddique, son of late party leader Baba Siddique, as the president of its Mumbai unit.

Following his appointment, Siddique thanked Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Sunetra Pawar, along with senior party leader Parth Pawar, for placing their trust in him. He said his priority would be to strengthen the party organisation and expand its presence across Mumbai through an inclusive approach.

“It is a long journey ahead. I will focus on strengthening the party in Mumbai through inclusivity. I will work towards fulfilling the dreams of late Ajit Pawar and my father,” Siddique said.

Describing Parth Pawar as an elder brother, Siddique reiterated his commitment to building a stronger party organisation and carrying forward the legacy of senior leaders.

In a parallel appointment, Sunetra Pawar named Umesh Patil as the NCP’s national chief spokesperson. The appointment letters were handed over to Siddique and Patil at Devgiri, Sunetra Pawar’s official residence in south Mumbai, in the presence of party leaders and office-bearers.

Sunetra Pawar expressed confidence that both appointees would work with dedication to strengthen the organisation and uphold the ideals and public service legacy of late Ajit Pawar.

Siddique joined the NCP in October 2024, days after his father was shot dead in Mumbai. The party subsequently fielded him from the Bandra constituency in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. However, he lost to Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Varun Sardesai.

He was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council in May 2026. His appointment as Mumbai unit president comes as the party seeks to reinforce its organisational structure and widen its outreach in the state capital.

Siddique’s new role places him at the forefront of the NCP’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Mumbai and connect with a wider section of the city’s electorate.
