New Delhi, September 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said leaders from across the world will gather in the national capital over the next few days for the 18th BRICS Summit, expressing confidence that the high-level meeting will lead to positive and meaningful discussions on issues concerning global welfare.
In a post on X in Hindi, Modi said the summit would provide an important platform for leaders to deliberate on various matters while keeping the interests and well-being of the world at the centre.
“Over the next few days, leaders from around the world will gather for the BRICS Summit. I am confident that the Summit will see positive and meaningful discussions on various issues with the welfare of the world in mind,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi also shared a Sanskrit shlok highlighting the importance of maintaining relationships with virtuous people and promoting dialogue, goodwill and cooperation.
The verse emphasised that individuals should remain in the company of virtuous people and cultivate meaningful relationships with them. It also underlined the importance of dialogue and mutual goodwill, saying that friendly relations and communication contribute to strengthening peace and cooperation.
India, which holds the BRICS chairmanship in 2026, will host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. The summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries as well as outreach invitees.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), participating leaders will exchange views on ways to strengthen intra-BRICS cooperation in areas of common priority. They will also discuss global and regional developments and issues of mutual importance.
The summit is expected to provide India with an important diplomatic platform to engage with leaders from the expanded BRICS grouping and advance discussions on cooperation across multiple areas.
Preparations for the high-profile gathering have been underway in the national capital, with Bharat Mandapam, the venue for the summit, being readied to welcome international leaders and their delegations.
The official X handle of the 18th BRICS Summit on Thursday highlighted the preparations underway in Delhi.
“This is Delhi. This is the moment. With its heritage glowing and Bharat Mandapam gearing up, the capital puts the finishing touches in place for the 18th BRICS Summit,” it said.
In another post, the summit's official handle said, “Delhi is gearing up for the 18th BRICS Summit. Soon, the world will meet at one table.”
The summit comes at a time when BRICS has expanded its membership and emerged as an important forum for discussions on global economic, political and strategic issues. India's chairmanship in 2026 is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among member countries while addressing shared global challenges.
With leaders arriving in New Delhi for the two-day summit, India is preparing to host a major international gathering aimed at promoting dialogue, cooperation and a shared approach to issues of global significance.
