Mumbai, Aug 2026 : A 41-year-old Mumbai Police constable deployed for the security of Bollywood actor Salman Khan died while on duty after reportedly suffering a heart attack outside the actor’s residence in Bandra, police said on Saturday.
According to a senior Mumbai Police official, the constable, identified as Ganesh, was posted outside Salman Khan’s residence as part of the security arrangements provided to the actor. He suddenly fell ill and collapsed while performing his duty.
Other police personnel present at the location immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, doctors declared him brought dead. Police officials said the preliminary cause of death was a heart attack.
Salman Khan has been provided enhanced security because of threats allegedly linked to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The gangster and members of his network have repeatedly threatened the actor over his alleged involvement in the killing of a blackbuck during the filming of the 1990s film Hum Saath-Saath Hain.
The security threat against the actor intensified in recent years. In April 2024, two motorcycle-borne men allegedly fired several rounds outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Bandra, triggering a major security response and an investigation by the Mumbai Police.
Investigators subsequently established that the shooting was allegedly carried out to intimidate the actor and was linked to instructions from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Bishnoi came into national prominence following the killing of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala in 2022. Since then, the gangster has repeatedly been associated with threats against Salman Khan, making the actor one of the most closely protected Bollywood personalities.
Salman has previously spoken publicly about the challenges of living under heightened security. During an interaction with the media at a five-star hotel in Mumbai’s Bandra area last year, the actor acknowledged that moving around with a large security detail could sometimes be difficult.
At the same time, he said he was not afraid of the threats and had left his safety in the hands of God.
“Bhagwan, Allah sab unpar hai. Jitni umar likhi hai, utni likhi hai,” the actor had said, expressing his belief that a person’s fate ultimately rests with God.
The actor had also acknowledged that travelling with a large number of security personnel sometimes created practical difficulties in his daily life.
The death of the constable has brought attention to the risks faced not only by high-profile individuals under threat but also by the police personnel responsible for their protection. The Mumbai Police constable was performing his assigned security duty when he reportedly suffered the fatal medical emergency.
Police are expected to complete the necessary formalities and documentation regarding the constable’s death. Further details regarding his medical history and the circumstances surrounding the incident are awaited.
