Tejashwi Yadav Demands Rs 15,000 Relief for Bihar Flood and Drought-Hit Families

Patna, September 2026: RJD national working president and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday criticised the state government over the prevailing flood and drought situation, demanding immediate financial assistance of Rs 15,000 for every affected family.

Addressing reporters in Patna, Yadav alleged that while the Bihar government's coffers were empty, crores of rupees were spent on celebrations marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday. He questioned the government's priorities amid the ongoing crisis.

Yadav said Bihar was facing a dual situation, with floods affecting several areas while farmers in other regions were experiencing drought-like conditions. He demanded that the Centre and state government provide immediate relief to affected families and farmers.

“People are dying in floods, while farmers are facing severe drought-like conditions,” Yadav said, according to the statement. He also questioned why the floods had not been declared a national disaster and called for such a declaration.

His demand for Rs 15,000 assistance comes as widespread flooding has affected millions of people across Bihar, with reports putting the number of affected people at around 50 lakh. Relief and rescue operations have been intensified in several districts.

The Bihar government had organised various programmes on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Modi's birthday, including the ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ initiative in Patna.
