Special Five-Day Drive Conducted Ahead of Janmashtami to Ensure Pure and Safe Food

Jaipur, September 2026: Under the ‘Pure Food – Attack on Adulteration’ campaign being conducted across Rajasthan under the direction of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, a special five-day drive was conducted from September 1 to 5, 2026, ahead of the Janmashtami festival.
The campaign focused on ensuring that people receive pure, safe and good-quality food products. During the drive, shops and establishments dealing in milk, mawa, paneer, ghee, sweets, spices and other food products were inspected across the state.
The campaign was conducted under the guidance of Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Gayatri Rathore, with Food Safety Commissioner Avichal Chaturvedi overseeing the operation and Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh monitoring the campaign.
During the special drive, food safety officers inspected 399 food establishments across Rajasthan and collected 802 samples. These included 390 enforcement samples and 412 surveillance samples. Samples of mawa, sweets, ghee and edible oils, milk and spices have been sent to public health laboratories for testing.
During inspections, 3,463.50 kg/litre of spoiled, contaminated and substandard food material found at various establishments was destroyed on the spot. This included 1,215 kg of sweets, 1,151 kg of other food products, 875 kg of mawa and paneer, 104.50 kg of ghee, 73 kg of spices and 45 kg/litre of substandard milk.
In addition, 1,870 kg/litre of food material suspected of being heavily adulterated was seized and sealed. This included 1,449 kg of suspected ghee and 421 kg of other food products.
Thus, during the special campaign, action was taken against a total of 5,333.50 kg/litre of food material.
According to the department, further action will be taken against those found guilty as per the law after the test reports of the seized food material are received.
The department said its teams will continue to conduct regular inspections of food products during the festive season to ensure that people have access to safe, pure and good-quality food items.
