Hyderabad, September 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday alleged that a conspiracy was underway to remove around one crore voters from the electoral rolls in the state during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR). He accused the BJP of attempting to use the revision exercise to systematically eliminate votes that are perceived to be against the party.
Addressing a programme organised to pay tributes to veteran Communist leader Sarampally Malla Reddy, who passed away recently, Revanth Reddy alleged that the BJP was particularly targeting voters belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and minority communities. He claimed that the party was adopting new strategies to influence electoral outcomes after being unable to secure victories through democratic means.
“Unable to win elections democratically, they are adopting new tactics,” the Chief Minister said, alleging that BJP leaders had openly stated that the strategy used in West Bengal would be replicated in Telangana. He further alleged that private agencies were being engaged to conduct surveys and identify voters for deletion. Revanth Reddy also accused the Election Commission of being used to advance a political agenda, allegations that have not been independently established.
The Chief Minister called for greater unity among non-BJP parties to counter the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level. He also criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for remaining silent on the SIR exercise and urged Communist parties to recognise what he described as the political understanding behind the developments.
Revanth Reddy stressed the need to protect the constitutional and voting rights of poor people and minorities. Recalling the Communist movement's long-standing struggle for the rights of economically weaker sections, he said the Red Flag had traditionally given confidence to the poor. He appealed to Left parties to focus on protecting the electoral rights of disadvantaged communities.
The Chief Minister also highlighted areas where he said the Congress had addressed issues historically raised by the Communists. He recalled that Communist leaders had fought for fair wages for landless labourers, while the Congress government enacted the Minimum Wages Act. Similarly, while the Left had raised the slogan of “land to the tiller”, he said Congress governments had distributed 24.56 lakh acres of assigned land.
Revanth Reddy said around 10 lakh acres of land are currently in the possession of Adivasi communities, describing this as part of the Congress response to issues that had been central to Communist movements. He also cited the Employment Guarantee Act and Food Security Act as examples of measures through which Congress governments had sought to address concerns relating to livelihoods and food security.
Paying tribute to Sarampally Malla Reddy, the Chief Minister described his death as an irreparable loss to the farming community. He said Malla Reddy had dedicated his life to championing the interests of farmers and possessed an exceptional understanding of agrarian issues.
Revanth Reddy recalled Malla Reddy's efforts on behalf of tenant farmers and his advocacy for remunerative prices for agricultural produce. He said his government would continue efforts to address farmers' concerns while drawing inspiration from the late leader's writings and the causes he had championed throughout his life.
The Chief Minister further said that the state government would discuss the matter in the Cabinet and take an appropriate decision on ways to permanently honour and preserve the memory and legacy of Sarampally Malla Reddy.
