Hyderabad, September 2026 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, extending the deadline for filing claims and objections by three weeks.
Under the revised schedule, electors and other stakeholders can now file claims and objections until October 7, 2026, instead of the earlier deadline of September 16. The claims and objections process began on August 17 as part of the electoral roll revision exercise.
The schedule for disposal of claims and objections has also been extended. The notice phase and disposal process, which was earlier scheduled to conclude on October 15, will now continue until November 5, 2026. Following completion of the process, the final electoral roll will be published on November 9, compared with the earlier scheduled date of October 19.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudharsan Reddy, along with Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr Vasam Venkateswar Reddy and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer G.S. Chary, held a video conference on Monday with the Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and District Election Officer, Hyderabad, besides District Election Officers (DEOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) from across the state.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the SIR and focused particularly on the delivery of notices to electors and the conduct of hearings during the claims and objections process.
The CEO directed DEOs and EROs to ensure that every notice is delivered personally by the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) to the elector. In urban areas, where locating elector addresses can sometimes be challenging, BLOs were instructed to seek the assistance of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of political parties.
Officials were also directed to make effective use of the additional logins provided to districts and ensure that all pending cases are cleared within the prescribed timelines.
The CEO further instructed DEOs and EROs to share lists relating to un-mapping and anomalies with recognised political parties during meetings with them. Officials were asked to encourage BLAs to participate actively throughout the claims and objections period to facilitate transparency and ensure that eligible electors are not left out.
Emphasising the importance of accurate data handling, the CEO directed BLOs, BLO Supervisors and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to upload documents strictly in accordance with ECI guidelines. Computer operators were cautioned against making errors, with EROs and AEROs being held responsible for mistakes committed by computer operators working under their supervision.
Supervisors were also instructed to visit the residences of senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwDs) in cases where the designated hearing locations had not been covered. The CEO directed authorities to ensure that such electors are not inconvenienced during the revision process.
The officials were further asked to operationalise or activate help desks at the ERO and DEO levels to provide assistance and guidance to electors regarding the SIR process, submission of claims and objections and other related issues.
During the video conference, the CEO also reviewed district-wise progress on the service of notices, scheduling of hearings and clearance of pending cases in the ERO and DEO logins. Officials were directed to maintain close monitoring to ensure that the revised timelines are followed and the electoral roll revision exercise is completed smoothly and accurately.
