Pond Liner Construction Helps Hemlal Move Towards Scientific Fish Farming, Now Earning Around Rs 6 Lakh Annually
Raipur, September 2026: Success stories of beneficiaries of government welfare schemes under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026 are highlighting the positive changes taking place in the rural economy. Through the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, fish farming is being promoted while providing farmers with better opportunities for self-employment and income generation.
Hemlal Churendra, a fish farmer from Duggatola village in Mohla block of Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district, has benefited from the scheme by constructing a pond liner on his own land and starting fish farming using scientific methods. The initiative has helped him strengthen his financial position and develop fisheries as a sustainable source of livelihood.
During 2025-26, Churendra received departmental assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana for constructing a pond liner on his land. With the financial support provided under the scheme, he completed the construction and subsequently began fish farming under the guidance of the Fisheries Department.
He is currently following scientific fish farming practices, including stocking quality fish seed, maintaining balanced feeding and managing water quality. These measures have helped improve fish production and the overall efficiency of his farming activities.
The adoption of modern techniques has resulted in a significant improvement in Churendra’s production and income. He regularly tests water quality and uses techniques such as aeration to maintain suitable conditions for fish growth. The use of quality fish seed, balanced feed and scientific management has further contributed to improved production.
The assistance provided through the government scheme, along with technical guidance from the Fisheries Department, has played an important role in establishing fish farming as a profitable business for Churendra.
At present, Churendra has an annual turnover of around Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh from fish farming and earns approximately Rs 6 lakh a year. By adopting fisheries as a business, he has improved his economic condition compared with the past and created a stable source of income for his family.
Churendra said farmers can take up fish farming alongside traditional agriculture to develop an additional source of income. He believes that if farmers adopt scientific methods and work according to departmental guidance, they can achieve better production at lower costs and increase their earnings.
His success story under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan demonstrates that government welfare schemes can go beyond financial assistance and help beneficiaries move towards self-employment, modern technology and economic self-reliance.
The support received through the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana has enabled Churendra to turn fish farming into an effective source of income. By adopting scientific practices and making use of departmental guidance, he is now strengthening his livelihood and moving towards greater economic empowerment.
