Amaravati, September 2026 : YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday said his party would continue its protests across the state until Education Minister Nara Lokesh resigns and a CBI inquiry is ordered into alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teachers through the District Selection Committee (DSC) process.
Jagan condemned what he described as police high-handedness against YSRCP leaders, students and unemployed youth who participated in a protest at the office of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) in Vijayawada. He alleged that the protesters were subjected to police action and claimed that individuals associated with the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), whom he described as “goons disguised as teachers”, attacked the demonstrators.
In a post on X, Jagan questioned why Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his government were opposed to the Opposition's demand for a CBI investigation into what the YSRCP has termed the “DSC scam”.
He asked whether the Chief Minister and his son, Education Minister Nara Lokesh, could certify their own recruitment process as transparent when allegations had been raised against it. Jagan said an impartial investigation was necessary to establish the facts and determine whether any irregularities had taken place.
Referring to the Vijayawada protest, the former Chief Minister alleged that YSRCP leaders, along with students and unemployed youth, had attempted to hold a peaceful rally but were prevented by the police. He claimed that the protesters faced barricades, a lathi-charge and arrests, while alleged counter-protests were allowed to take place.
Jagan also questioned whether the Opposition had the democratic right to conduct a peaceful rally. He alleged that the government's response reflected an attempt to divert attention from questions surrounding the DSC recruitment process.
The YSRCP chief said the issue was particularly significant because large numbers of young people spend years preparing for teacher recruitment examinations and invest considerable amounts of money in coaching and other preparations. According to him, candidates must have confidence that government recruitment will be based on merit, transparency and a fair selection process.
Jagan alleged that the controversy had undermined the confidence of unemployed youth and job aspirants. He questioned whether police action, arrests and counter-protests could address concerns among candidates and restore their faith in the recruitment system.
The former Chief Minister maintained that only an impartial investigation could establish whether the allegations were valid and restore confidence among candidates. He reiterated that his party wanted the recruitment process to be examined independently rather than relying solely on assurances from the government.
Jagan further alleged that the state government was attempting to suppress the Opposition's voice and prevent the facts surrounding the recruitment process from being examined. He demanded that DSC candidates receive justice and that government recruitment remain transparent and accountable.
He also called upon Nara Lokesh to accept responsibility for the alleged irregularities and resign as Education Minister. At the same time, he reiterated the YSRCP's demand that the Andhra Pradesh government order a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Jagan said the party would continue its agitation across Andhra Pradesh until its demands were addressed, making the alleged DSC recruitment irregularities a continuing point of confrontation between the YSRCP and the TDP-led state government.
