Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi Interacts With Officials In Islamabad.

Islamabad; April 2026: Immediately after touching down at Islamabad, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had met Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, national security adviser, head of intelligence, the deputy foreign minister and the interior minister, among others. This is considered to be the initial meeting, with many more meetings to take place.

As reported earlier, the history of bilateral engagement between the United States, and Iran is very rare, except for certain encounters under unprecedented situations. Hence, Iran’s claim of no direct talks, doesn’t really mean that there won’t be any negotiations.

The Iranian president recently listed these obstacles on his X account, which include commitments, blockades and threats from the US, as Iran has a cloud of mistrust when it comes to the US. Furthermore, the blockade and the capture of ships by the two sides is really hurting the potential for any negotiated settlement. While, Iran says any negotiation is conditional upon the ending of the blockade, the US side says Iran has to re-open the Strait of Hormuz.

There has been a deliberate embargo on information in pertinence to Islamabad talks. It is evident that on the part of US President Donald Trump, his concrete expectation is to hear what Iran has to say. In other words, they understand in the US, that there is a desire on the part of the Iranians to present some sort of proposal. Does it mean that this is a possible solution to the stalemate we have over uranium enrichment, which we know the United States say they want completely halted, and Iran has rejected, could this be monitoring? could this be limits? – it is really unclear.

The Pakistani information minister yesterday has reiterated that there is a deliberate blackout on information. That is because Pakistan has taken the steps of entrusting both sides, and there is concern that by leaking out any of this information prematurely, it could jeopardise the discussions and the ability to progress forward.

As updated a while ago, the Iranian Foreign Minister has voiced that this meeting is a direct result of pressure put on both sides, but primarily right now for the Iranian delegation. It is the reaction to intense efforts by the Pakistani government.

“The talks, the first round, wrapped up about two weeks ago, and since then, there has been intense shuttle diplomacy back and forth or at least passing of messages. Since that time, we’ve had the American technical teams that have been here on the ground as well as Iranian experts, and there have been casual interactions back and forth. And now, this is the result of the Pakistani government essentially corralling all of that, trying to inject momentum back into this process and the Iranians, as a result of those engagements, has now said it has observations it wishes to share in person with the Pakistani officials”, Araghchi reiterated.
