Iran FM Araghchi Begins Diplomatic Tour, Islamabad Visit to Convey Tehran’s Position on Conflict

Tehran/Islamabad, April 2026: Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has embarked on a multi-nation diplomatic tour that includes Pakistan, Oman, and Russia, aimed at strengthening coordination with key partners and addressing ongoing regional tensions.

According to reports, Araghchi will use his visit to Islamabad to convey Iran’s position regarding the end of the conflict involving the United States and Israel. While Pakistan is expected to act as a communication bridge, Iranian officials have clarified that no direct negotiations with US representatives are planned during this visit.

Leading a high-level delegation, Araghchi’s tour is focused on bilateral engagements and consultations on evolving geopolitical developments. In a post on social media, he described the trip as a “timely tour” intended to deepen cooperation with regional partners. “Our neighbours are our priority,” he said, underlining Iran’s focus on strengthening ties within its immediate geopolitical sphere.

In Muscat, the capital of Oman, Araghchi is expected to discuss regional security issues and the broader conflict dynamics, while his visit to Russia will involve high-level consultations on bilateral, regional, and international matters. The tour reflects Tehran’s effort to align its diplomatic strategy with key allies amid a volatile regional environment.

Iranian media reports indicate that Tehran currently has no plans to engage in direct talks with the United States. Instead, Islamabad is expected to play an intermediary role by conveying Iran’s views on de-escalation and possible pathways to end the conflict.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Iranian delegation arrived in Islamabad on Friday night, marking the beginning of a crucial diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

The visit comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions following joint military actions earlier this year by the United States and Israel targeting Iranian cities, including Tehran. The strikes resulted in significant casualties, including senior leadership figures, and triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran on Israeli and US-linked targets across the Middle East.

A ceasefire was reached on April 8, raising hopes for a diplomatic resolution. However, subsequent negotiations held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12 failed to produce a breakthrough, leading to renewed strain in relations. The situation further escalated after the United States imposed a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, restricting maritime movement to and from Iranian ports.

Iran has since declined participation in further rounds of talks, citing the continued blockade and what it described as “excessive” demands from the US side. Despite this, Araghchi’s ongoing diplomatic outreach suggests that Tehran is exploring alternative channels to communicate its position and seek a resolution.

The tour underscores Iran’s strategy of engaging regional and global partners to navigate the complex geopolitical landscape, even as direct dialogue with Washington remains stalled.
