Netanyahu Says Trump Pressuring Iran, Lebanon as Israel Pushes for Regional Peace
Jerusalem, April 2026 : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday said that US President Donald Trump is exerting “very strong pressure” on Iran and Lebanon to advance peace efforts in the region, even as Israel continues military operations against emerging threats.
In a video message shared via the Prime Minister’s official social media handle, Netanyahu said that ongoing developments reflect a broader effort to reshape the Middle East. “I promised that we would change the face of the Middle East, and that is exactly what we are doing,” he stated.
Highlighting his recent conversation with Trump, Netanyahu said the United States is applying both economic and military pressure on Iran, with close coordination between the two allies. “We are operating in full cooperation,” he added, suggesting a unified approach toward addressing regional security concerns.
Netanyahu also pointed to parallel diplomatic efforts involving Lebanon, describing them as part of a process aimed at achieving a “historic peace” between Israel and its northern neighbour. However, he accused Hezbollah of attempting to derail these efforts. “It is clear to us that Hezbollah is trying to sabotage this process,” he said.
Amid the diplomatic push, Israel has continued military operations to counter threats along its northern border. Netanyahu stressed that the country retains “full freedom of action” against any emerging dangers, reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents in northern Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that it carried out strikes on Hezbollah-linked military structures in the Deir Aames area, from where rockets were reportedly launched toward Shtula. The IDF also alleged that Hezbollah has been using ambulances and medical teams as cover to transport weapons and personnel, a claim that, if verified, would constitute a violation of international humanitarian norms.
According to the Israeli military, a search operation in southern Lebanon uncovered an ambulance allegedly used to conceal arms, including explosive devices, mortar shells, magazines, and grenades. The IDF further reported two recent incidents in which Hezbollah launched rockets and an explosive drone targeting Israeli forces operating south of the Forward Defence Line. These actions, it said, represent “blatant violations” of existing ceasefire understandings.
Tensions were further heightened by remarks from Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, who signalled a readiness for stronger action against Iran, pending approval from the United States. His comments underscored Israel’s hardline stance against Tehran, which it accuses of backing militant activities across the region.
The developments come amid a volatile security environment in the Middle East, where diplomatic initiatives and military actions continue to unfold simultaneously. While efforts toward peace between Israel and Lebanon appear to be gaining momentum, persistent hostilities and mutual accusations highlight the fragile nature of the situation.
As regional tensions persist, the interplay between diplomacy and force remains central to shaping the future trajectory of the Middle East.
