National Agriculture Development Scheme: Ishwari Prasad Earns Rs 2.9 Lakh from Tomato Cultivation

Raipur, April 2026 : By adopting modern agricultural practices, a farmer has significantly increased his income. Ishwari Prasad, a farmer from Kalarjevra village in Pathariya development block of Mungeli district, has set a new example of success by embracing advanced farming techniques. Despite limited resources, he has achieved remarkable growth in his earnings through the use of drip irrigation systems and plastic mulching.

Ishwari Prasad owns a total of 1.20 hectares of land, out of which he cultivated an improved variety of tomato (Saho) on one acre. He undertook this initiative with guidance and support received under the National Agriculture Development Scheme (RKVY) for the year 2025–26.

By using modern techniques, he achieved a production of around 150 quintals of tomatoes per acre. Selling the produce in the wholesale market at a price of Rs 25 to Rs 30 per kilogram, he earned a total income of Rs 3.75 lakh. The total cost of cultivation was around Rs 85,000, resulting in a net profit of approximately Rs 2.9 lakh.

He also received a subsidy of Rs 30,000 from the Horticulture Department, which helped reduce his overall costs. This initiative has not only strengthened his financial condition but has also helped him move towards self-reliance.

Ishwari Prasad stated that by properly utilising modern techniques and government schemes, farmers can achieve higher productivity and better income even with limited land. His success is now inspiring other farmers in the surrounding areas.
