Marco Rubio Arrives in Jaipur Amid Tight Security, Receives Traditional Rajasthani Welcome
Jaipur, May 2026 : US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Jaipur on Monday as part of his ongoing India visit, prompting extensive security arrangements and temporary traffic restrictions across the Rajasthan capital for the movement of the high-profile American delegation.
Rubio, accompanied by his family, landed at Jaipur Airport from Agra aboard a special aircraft and proceeded directly towards the historic Amer Fort. In view of the VVIP visit, authorities imposed temporary traffic restrictions along the nearly 19-kilometre stretch connecting Jaipur Airport to Amer Fort through Jawaharlal Nehru Marg.
Police officials advised commuters to avoid the designated route for several hours as security agencies carried out movement control and surveillance operations. Security deployment was significantly intensified across major tourist locations, hotels and key junctions in the city to ensure smooth and secure transit for the visiting dignitary.
As part of his Jaipur itinerary, Rubio is scheduled to visit the iconic Amer Fort and the City Palace. Sources indicated that the US Secretary of State may also make a visit to the Elephant Village to experience Rajasthan’s traditional cultural attractions.
The district administration ordered the closure of Amer Fort for tourists from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. due to security protocols associated with the visit. Elaborate arrangements were made at the historic fort complex to welcome Rubio in traditional Rajasthani style.
Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari is expected to formally receive Rubio at Jaleb Chowk within the Amer Fort premises. Folk artists and cultural troupes were assembled to present Rajasthan’s vibrant cultural heritage through performances of traditional dances such as Ghoomar, Kalbelia and Kachchi Ghodi. Puppet artists were also scheduled to stage folk performances for the visiting delegation.
Rubio’s visit to Jaipur came shortly after his stop in Agra earlier in the day, where he visited the Taj Mahal along with his wife, Jeannette D. Rubio. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also accompanied the delegation during the Agra visit.
Authorities in Jaipur remained on high alert throughout the day, with additional police personnel and specialised security units deployed at sensitive locations. Officials conducted route inspections and monitored crowd movement to prevent disruptions during the visit.
Rubio is expected to stay at Jaipur’s heritage Rambagh Palace Hotel, where special security arrangements and hospitality preparations have been made. Officials stated that surveillance and access control measures around the hotel have also been strengthened.
The US Secretary of State is scheduled to depart for New Delhi early Tuesday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m. His India visit is being viewed as significant in terms of diplomatic engagement between India and the United States, while also drawing international attention to Jaipur’s status as a major global tourism and heritage destination.
