RCB, Gujarat Titans Battle for Direct Spot in IPL 2026 Final in High-Stakes Qualifier 1
Dharamshala, May 2026 : Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to continue their dominant run in IPL 2026 when they take on an equally dangerous Gujarat Titans side in Qualifier 1 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Tuesday. With a direct place in Sunday’s final in Ahmedabad at stake, both teams will be aiming to seize the momentum in what promises to be one of the biggest clashes of the season.
The winner of the encounter will move straight into the IPL 2026 final, while the losing side will still get another opportunity through Qualifier 2. Both teams finished the league stage with 18 points from 14 matches, but RCB secured the top position due to their superior net run rate after emerging as the most consistent side throughout the campaign.
Interestingly, the momentum for both teams shifted significantly after their previous meeting on April 24, when RCB comfortably chased down 206 against Gujarat Titans at their home ground. At that stage, GT were still struggling for consistency and were placed in the middle of the table. However, since then, the Shubman Gill-led side have transformed themselves into one of the most balanced teams in the competition, particularly with their bowling performances.
Gujarat Titans head into the playoffs after an emphatic 89-run victory over Chennai Super Kings in their final league game, a result that highlighted their growing dominance. Their bowling unit has become one of the strongest in the tournament, with Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada and Prasidh Krishna delivering breakthroughs regularly with the new ball. Rashid Khan and Jason Holder have also played crucial roles by controlling the middle overs and restricting opposition scoring rates.
However, GT now face an RCB side that appears equally formidable. Bengaluru’s batting unit has fired consistently this season, with skipper Rajat Patidar leading from the front. Virat Kohli has once again produced vital runs at the top, while Devdutt Padikkal, Venkatesh Iyer and Tim David have added stability and firepower to the middle order.
RCB’s bowling attack has also delivered consistently. Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have formed an effective new-ball combination, while Krunal Pandya’s economical spells in the middle overs have helped the team maintain control in pressure situations.
Tuesday’s match will also mark Gujarat Titans’ first-ever IPL game in Dharamshala. The HPCA Stadium has generally favoured teams chasing targets this season, although the sample size remains limited with only two matches played at the venue so far.
Several individual battles are expected to shape the outcome of the contest. Virat Kohli’s duel against Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj on a pitch expected to offer bounce and movement will be closely watched. Equally important will be Josh Hazlewood’s battle against Gujarat’s in-form opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan during the powerplay overs.
With both teams boasting strong batting depth, quality pace attacks and experienced match-winners, the clash is expected to be a tightly fought contest between two of the best-performing sides of IPL 2026.
