Major Campaign by Rajasthan Police Against Child Labour and Child Trafficking—“Umang-VII”

Jaipur, May 2026 : In Rajasthan, a statewide one-month special campaign titled “Umang-VII” will be launched against child labour, bonded child labour, and human trafficking (child trafficking). As per the instructions of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, the campaign will be conducted across the state from June 1 to June 30, 2026. The objective of the campaign is to effectively control serious social evils such as child labour and child trafficking and ensure rehabilitation of affected children.

Additional Director General of Police (Civil Rights and AHT) Hawa Singh Ghumaria has issued detailed guidelines to all Police Commissioners, Range IGs, Deputy Commissioners of Police, District Superintendents of Police, as well as GRP Ajmer and Jodhpur. The Police Headquarters has directed that the campaign be carried out with full sensitivity and coordination.

Appointment of district-level nodal officers

For effective implementation, an Additional Superintendent of Police-level officer has been appointed as the nodal officer in each district. District SPs have been instructed to coordinate with all related departments and stakeholders. Meetings will be held with the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Women and Child Development Department, Labour Department, Child Rights Department, Child Welfare Committee, shelter homes, children’s homes, and various NGOs to formulate a joint strategy.

Formation of police rescue teams at police station level

The Police Headquarters has directed the formation of special rescue teams at every police station level in all districts. Each team will include an SI or ASI along with four police personnel. These teams will receive special training before the campaign begins so they can effectively identify and act in cases of child labour and human trafficking.

Representatives from the Women and Child Development Department, Social Welfare Department, Child Rights Department, Child Welfare Committee, and NGOs will also be included to ensure sensitive and coordinated rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

Screening in dhabas, factories, hotels, and crowded areas

During the campaign, children will be screened in hotels, roadside eateries (dhabas), brick kilns, factories, railway platforms, bus stands, religious places, highway dhabas, and temporary settlements. Authorities have been instructed to collect complete details, photographs, and if necessary videography of such children.

If any child is found missing or a victim of trafficking, immediate legal action will be taken. Rescued children will undergo medical examination, and if required, their mental health will also be assessed.

Presentation before Child Welfare Committees

Rescued children will be produced before the concerned Child Welfare Committees. Efforts will also be made to trace their parents or guardians and reunite them with their families. In cases involving minors brought from other states, immediate information will be shared with the concerned state authorities and local police stations.

Strict action against trafficking networks

The Police Headquarters has directed strict action against organized gangs involved in child labour and child trafficking. Night shelters of children will also be inspected to identify any organized criminal networks.

In cases of human trafficking, action will be taken under Sections 143, 144, 145, 146, 98, and 99 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 75 and 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and provisions of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986.

DGP’s clear message: Zero tolerance for child exploitation

The Police Headquarters has stated that the Rajasthan government and police maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards child labour, bonded child labour, and child trafficking. Through the “Umang-VII” campaign, not only will children be rescued from exploitation, but strict legal action will also be ensured against criminals and organized trafficking networks.
