Revanth Reddy Unveils Congress Strategy to Safeguard Voter Rights Ahead of Telangana’s Electoral Roll Revision

Hyderabad, May 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President A. Revanth Reddy has directed the Congress party to launch a comprehensive campaign to protect voters from vulnerable communities during the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, scheduled to begin across the state next month.

Addressing the Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Revanth Reddy expressed concern that the revision process could potentially affect large sections of society, particularly Dalits, minorities, tribal communities, women, and migrant workers. He cautioned party leaders that the exercise could emerge as a significant issue in constituencies with substantial populations of Lambadas, Adivasis and migrant labourers.

The Chief Minister noted that migration patterns in several Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies could increase the risk of genuine voters being left out of the electoral rolls. According to him, voters belonging to socially and economically weaker sections may be especially vulnerable to omission if adequate safeguards are not put in place.

To ensure close monitoring of the revision process, Revanth Reddy instructed the party leadership to appoint dedicated SIR in-charges for all 119 Assembly constituencies and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana. These in-charges, he said, should regularly visit their assigned constituencies, monitor developments on the ground and work closely with local party workers.

He stressed that the Congress could prevent wrongful deletion of voter names only through continuous vigilance and active participation at the grassroots level. The Chief Minister observed that Congress leaders and workers have begun gaining a clearer understanding of the implications of the SIR process and are becoming more aware of the challenges it may pose to ordinary citizens and party supporters.

Revanth Reddy urged the party to develop a detailed understanding of the issues likely to arise during the revision exercise and formulate practical solutions. He also called for consultations with former Pradesh Congress Committee presidents, whose experience and insights could help strengthen the party’s strategy.

Highlighting the need to protect the voting rights of people who have temporarily migrated for employment or other reasons, he instructed party leaders to take special precautions to ensure that such voters are not excluded from the electoral rolls.

The Chief Minister also directed that constituency-level meetings on the SIR process be organised across all 15 Assembly constituencies within Hyderabad city. He suggested assigning specific responsibilities to Rajya Sabha members and Members of the Legislative Council to oversee activities in the Hyderabad region and ensure effective coordination.

Emphasising unity within the organisation, Revanth Reddy appealed to all Congress leaders to work collectively and maintain close coordination during the voter verification exercise. He also assigned a key role to the Mahila Congress, asking it to organise cluster-level awareness and review meetings across the state.

In a move aimed at strengthening party engagement, the Chief Minister instructed ministers serving as district in-charges to dedicate one full day every ten days exclusively to party-related activities and direct interaction with grassroots workers.

Reaffirming his own commitment to organisational strengthening, Revanth Reddy announced that he would personally meet Congress functionaries at the village level once every ten days and devote three days every month exclusively to party affairs. The initiative, he said, would help maintain direct communication with workers and ensure effective implementation of the party’s voter protection strategy ahead of future elections.
