Arvind Kejriwal Hails Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation, Calls It a ‘Major Victory for Democracy’

New Delhi, July 2026 : Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, describing it as a significant victory for democracy following weeks of nationwide protests over alleged NEET paper leaks and examination irregularities.

Taking to social media platform X, Kejriwal congratulated citizens across the country, writing, “Congratulations to the entire country on Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. A big win for democracy.”

He later released a video message in which he praised the determination of students and young protesters, saying their sustained efforts had finally yielded results.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone, especially Gen Z and the youth of this country. Your hard work, patience and determination have borne fruit with the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan,” Kejriwal said.

Describing the development as a landmark democratic moment, the AAP chief said the resignation demonstrated that peaceful public movements could compel governments to respond to people’s concerns.

“For some time, many citizens had begun to believe that governments no longer listened to the voices of ordinary people. There was a growing feeling that democratic institutions were becoming unresponsive. Today’s development shows that democracy is alive and that public opinion continues to matter,” he said.

Kejriwal added that the government must recognise that it is accountable to the people and should remain responsive to public concerns.

“In a democracy, governments are elected to serve the people. They must listen to citizens and act on legitimate concerns. This is how democratic systems are meant to function,” he remarked.

He also expressed hope that the Centre would now focus on implementing comprehensive reforms to prevent future examination irregularities.

“I sincerely hope the government now takes decisive and permanent steps to eliminate paper leaks and restore complete faith in the examination system. Students deserve a transparent and fair process,” Kejriwal said.

Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister earlier on Saturday amid mounting protests demanding accountability over examination paper leaks and irregularities. In his resignation letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pradhan said his decision was aimed at protecting the integrity of the education system and ensuring that students’ futures remained secure.

The former minister reaffirmed his lifelong commitment to education and youth welfare, thanking the Prime Minister for the opportunity to serve in the Union Cabinet. He stated that he deeply respected the aspirations of India’s young generation and believed that a strong, inclusive and forward-looking education system remained essential for nation-building.

Pradhan also highlighted the government’s response to the examination controversy, including transferring the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), conducting a re-examination, and introducing measures to strengthen the security and transparency of future competitive examinations.

His resignation marks a major political development amid one of the country’s largest student-led movements in recent years. Attention is now expected to shift toward the government’s proposed reforms to enhance the credibility, transparency and accountability of India’s examination system while addressing the concerns raised by millions of students across the country.
