K. Kavitha to Launch New Political Party Within Three Months, Takes On BRS and Congress Leadership

Hyderabad, Feb 2026 : Telangana Jagruthi President and former Member of Parliament K. Kavitha on Friday announced that she would float a new political party within the next three months, signalling a major shift in Telangana’s political landscape. Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Kavitha said she was waiting for an appropriate “mahuratam” (auspicious time) to formally launch the new outfit.

Kavitha, the daughter of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), had quit the BRS last year after being suspended from the party on charges of anti-party activities. Since then, she has been actively rebuilding her political base through Telangana Jagruthi, an organisation she has led for several years.

She announced that Telangana Jagruthi would organise a meeting in Hyderabad on February 12 to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the formation of Telangana. Kavitha said the event would reaffirm the organisation’s commitment to the ideals of the Telangana movement and social justice.

Launching a sharp attack on the BRS, Kavitha accused her former party of failing to sincerely pursue the issue of reservations for Backward Classes (BCs). She criticised the BRS leadership for fielding B. Madhav Reddy as a candidate in the municipal elections, pointing out that he had earlier filed a petition in the High Court opposing the demand for 42 per cent reservation for BCs.

Referring to BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao’s appeal to voters to support the party irrespective of individual candidates, Kavitha said she had not expected the party to nominate a person who had taken a stand against BC reservations. She noted that Madhav Reddy, who was once associated with Telangana Jagruthi, later floated Reddy Jagruthi and claims to be working for the interests of the Reddy community.

Kavitha further claimed that in Sircilla, the Assembly constituency represented by her brother KTR, as many as 16 BRS leaders had approached Telangana Jagruthi seeking tickets to contest municipal elections. She alleged that senior BRS leaders, including KTR and former minister T. Harish Rao, were campaigning selectively in areas where Telangana Jagruthi candidates were in the fray.

Turning her criticism towards the Congress government, Kavitha accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of using abusive language against KCR. She alleged that the Chief Minister had resorted to such language because he was unable to politically confront the former Chief Minister. “No one can erase KCR’s name from the history of Telangana,” she asserted.

On the alleged phone-tapping case, Kavitha remarked that the investigation had turned into a never-ending “television serial” and demanded that the government clarify when it intended to conclude the probe.

She also criticised Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar for dismissing petitions seeking the disqualification of eight BRS MLAs who had defected to the Congress. Questioning the Speaker’s stance, she said that if the MLAs were still considered part of the BRS, it was contradictory for the Congress to appoint one of them, Arekapudi Gandhi, as the party in charge of municipal elections in Nizamabad district.

Kavitha’s announcement of a new party and her sharp attacks on both the BRS and the Congress indicate her intent to carve out an independent political space in Telangana in the months ahead.
