CM Yogi distributes compensation of ₹285 crore to 2.51 lakh farmers under ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna’
Lucknow: February 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday distributed compensation worth ₹285 crore to 2.51 lakh farmers under ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna’ (Kharif-2025). He also provided financial assistance amounting to ₹175 crore to 3,500 beneficiary families under ‘Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojna’.
CM laid foundation stones for Deputy Director of Agriculture offices and Soil Testing Laboratories in Baghpat, Shamli, Kasganj and Bhadohi, a 50 bed hostel building at the Government Land Conservation Centre in Mauranipur, Jhansi and a Smart Agriculture Bureau Studio unit in Lucknow.
Extending greetings on the occasion of Holi, CM Yogi assured farmers that the double-engine government is standing firmly with them. He expressed confidence that ‘Annadata Kisaan’ would continue contributing to the prosperity of the state through advanced farming practices.
CM Yogi said, “Just a day earlier, UP government’s budget for 2026-27 is being passed. Inspired by the Prime Minister, the budget includes numerous schemes for youth, women, farmers and the poor.” He stated that when the budget is implemented, benefits are transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
“Today, with the press of a single button, ₹460 crore is being transferred directly into farmers’ accounts, completely eliminating the role of middlemen”, he said. Beneficiary families across all districts of the state, including Lucknow, are receiving benefits under these schemes.
Calling the ₹285 crore compensation distributed to 2.51 lakh farmer families under ‘Fasal Bima Yojna’ a strong support system, CM Yogi said that crops had suffered losses due to drought and excessive rainfall. Crop insurance ensures returns during times of distress caused by natural disasters.
Referring to the ‘Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojna’, he said that earlier only the farmer was covered, while family members, sharecroppers and co-farmers were excluded. Under the current government, more than ₹1,000 crore has been provided, offering ₹5 lakh assistance in case of death of a farmer or a family member due to an accident.
He said, “No one can compensate for the loss of a human life, but the government can stand as a support system. On Saturday, 3,500 disaster-affected farmers, co-farmers, family members and sharecroppers were benefited. Earlier, on June 16, 2025, ₹561.86 crore had been distributed to 11,690 farmers and dependents.” Chief Minister instructed all District Magistrates to ensure the money reaches beneficiaries’ accounts by the next day at any cost.
CM Yogi said that ‘Aapda Mitra’ act as first responders during disasters, an initiative strongly promoted by the Prime Minister. Uttar Pradesh has further strengthened this campaign.
In 25 districts, 29,772 youth volunteers (from NCC, NSS, NYKS, Bharat Scouts and Guides) are being trained under ‘Aapda Mitra Prabandhan Karyakram’. They have undergone seven-day training and have been provided with emergency responder kits, training modules, ID cards and certificates.
The emergency responder kit includes 15 items such as life jackets, search torches, first-aid boxes, safety helmets and goggles. The state government has decided to provide life and medical insurance coverage for three years to trained volunteers.
On February 10, Uttar Pradesh Disaster Management Authority signed an MoU with the National Insurance Company, under which ‘Aapda Mitra’ will receive an insurance cover of ₹5 lakh for three years. So far, 2,959 youth volunteers are being trained and training for the remaining volunteers will continue.
CM said that earlier, when a disaster struck, victims were not even attended to for years, nor did they receive compensation. In 2015-16, there were instances when ₹2 was credited to one farmer’s account and ₹4 to another’s. Our effort is to ensure that as soon as disasters like floods, lightning strikes or fires occur, money reaches the victim’s bank account within 24 hours.
For 2025-26, ₹876 crore are being allocated to the State Disaster Response Fund. From this amount, the government has already distributed ₹260 crore as agricultural investment assistance to 5,14,322 farmers affected by crop damage, ₹216 crore to 5,398 victims of loss of life and ₹24 crore to 27,448 people affected by damage to houses.
CM announced that Doppler Weather Radars will be installed in Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Jhansi and Azamgarh. These radars will help in accurate weather forecasting and identifying areas at risk of lightning strikes.
He added that installation of 450 Automatic Weather Stations and nearly 2,000 Automatic Rain Gauges at the block level across the state is almost complete.
The event was attended by Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Minister of State Baldev Singh Aulakh, Vice Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Disaster Management Authority Lieutenant General Yogendra Dimri, Principal Secretary (Agriculture) Ravindra Kumar, Principal Secretary (Revenue) Aparna U and other officials.
Chief Minister announced that ‘Aapda Mitra’ will be given priority in the recruitment of 45,000 Home Guards in the state. He said that while Aapda Mitra service is currently voluntary, those selected as Home Guards will receive an honorarium from the government.
So far, 19,000 Aapda Mitra are being trained by the Disaster Management Authority. Additionally, a two-year Disaster Management Internship Program is being run for graduate and postgraduate students.
