Finnish President Alexander Stubb Begins Three-Day State Visit to India, Focus on Strategic and Economic Ties
New Delhi, March 2026 : Finnish President Alexander Stubb arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day State Visit to India, underscoring the growing momentum in India–Finland relations. The visit is taking place at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and marks President Stubb’s first official trip to India since assuming office.
President Stubb was received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh and was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour, reflecting the importance New Delhi attaches to ties with Finland. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) extended a warm welcome, describing the visit as a significant step in further deepening bilateral engagement.
The Finnish President will remain in India until March 7 and is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior government officials and leading business representatives. The composition of the delegation highlights Finland’s interest in expanding cooperation with India across political, economic, technological and innovation-driven sectors.
A key highlight of President Stubb’s visit will be his participation in the 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from March 5 to 7. As the Chief Guest of the prestigious global forum, he will deliver the keynote address, sharing Finland’s perspectives on international security, geopolitics, democratic resilience and global cooperation at a time of heightened international uncertainty.
According to the MEA, Prime Minister Modi and President Stubb will hold comprehensive discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, digital technologies, clean energy, education, innovation and sustainable development. The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on key regional and global issues, including collaboration in multilateral forums. Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch in honour of the visiting Finnish leader.
During his stay in the national capital, President Stubb will also call on President Droupadi Murmu and meet Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to call on him as well, with discussions expected to focus on advancing bilateral ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation.
Following his engagements in New Delhi, President Stubb will travel to Mumbai, where he will meet Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In India’s financial capital, he will interact with Indian business leaders and participate in an India–Finland business event aimed at promoting investment and commercial partnerships. He is also slated to address students at the University of Mumbai, highlighting the importance of academic and people-to-people exchanges.
The MEA noted that India and Finland share warm, friendly and multifaceted relations rooted in common democratic values, innovation-led growth and respect for the rule of law. Finland is regarded as an important partner for India within the European Union and the Nordic region.
“The visit of President Stubb, following the recent visit of Prime Minister of Finland H.E. Petteri Orpo to India for the AI Impact Summit in February 2026, reflects the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors and to deepen people-to-people linkages,” the MEA said.
