Vijay Dhwaj Samarohs were Celebrated as Festivals in Avantika during Samrat Vikramaditya Era: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that in the ancient city of Avantika, during the reign of Samrat Vikramaditya, soldiers traditionally celebrated festivals by taking out processions carrying victory flags and symbols from military camps throughout the city. Over time, this celebration came to be known as ‘Ger’. This ancient tradition endures to this day and remains a symbol of our cultural pride.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav visited the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple and performed poojan and abhishek of Lord Shri Mahakal on Sunday morning in Ujjain. After the worship, in the temple’s Sabha Mandap, he ceremonially worshipped the flag of Lord Veerbhadra, the Shri Mahakal flag and traditional weapons with proper rituals on the occasion of Rang Panchami during the flag procession. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav then preceded to the temple’s ‘Kund’ premises carrying the flag in his hands.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav directed Collector Shri Roshan Kumar Singh to provide financial assistance of ₹1.25 lakh each to support the continuation of the traditional ‘Ger’ processions held in Ujjain.

Earlier, before the traditional Shri Mahakaleshwar Flag Procession (Shri Veerbhadra Flag Procession) that departs from Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple on the occasion of Rang Panchami, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav reached the temple in the morning and performed worship of Lord Shri Mahakal in the sanctum sanctorum, praying for the prosperity and well-being of the nation and the state.

After the worship, priests of the temple recited Swasti Vachan in the Nandi Hall, where Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also meditated upon Lord Mahakal. On the occasion, Collector Shri Roshan Kumar Singh honoured Chief Minister Dr. Yadav by presenting him with an angavastra, prasad of Lord Mahakal, and a memento.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav celebrated Rang Panchami with the public by playing Phoolon ki Holi at Tower Chowk in Ujjain on Sunday. Earlier, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav participated in the traditional ‘Ger’ procession that commenced from Sindhi Colony. Citizens warmly welcomed the Chief Minister and celebrated Rang Panchami with great enthusiasm in his presence.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav showered rose petals on the gathering from the stage set up at Tower Chowk and celebrated the festival with the people.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that these flowers remind us that although life may have many colours, the truest colours are those of the heart, filled with respect, brotherhood and patriotism for one another. He prayed that the festival of Rang Panchami strengthen feelings of warmth, love, and affection in everyone’s lives.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav and the people sang the song ‘Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka, Albelo Ka Mastano Ka’, together, creating an atmosphere where it seemed as if the entire city of Ujjain resonated in one voice. The song was dedicated to the brave soldiers who stand guard at the nation’s borders, ensuring that we can celebrate such festivals in freedom.

Thousands of people dancing and singing together at Tower Chowk during Rang Panchami also reflected the vibrant spirit and traditional charm of the Malwa region.
