Iran Proposes Regional Security Framework, Discusses War Conditions with India

Tehran, March 2026 : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has proposed the creation of a regional security framework involving West Asian countries to ensure peace, stability, and security without foreign interference, amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

The proposal was made during a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both leaders discussed bilateral relations along with the evolving regional and international situation following recent military escalations. According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Pezeshkian emphasized that regional nations should take collective responsibility for maintaining stability, rather than relying on external powers.

Reiterating Iran’s stance on ending the conflict, Pezeshkian outlined key preconditions, including an immediate halt to what he termed “aggressions” by the United States and Israel, along with firm guarantees to prevent any recurrence of such attacks. He strongly condemned the strikes, accusing both nations of targeting civilian infrastructure and killing senior leadership, including Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with top military officials and civilians.

The Iranian President also rejected claims made by US President Donald Trump that the conflict was aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Pezeshkian maintained that Iran’s leadership had consistently opposed the development of nuclear weapons, noting that clear directives had been issued to prevent such pursuits.

On his part, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in the region. He strongly condemned attacks on critical energy infrastructure and stressed the importance of maintaining security in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Modi also highlighted the need to ensure uninterrupted maritime navigation in the Gulf, given its global economic significance.

The conflict traces back to February 28, when joint US-Israeli strikes targeted Tehran and other Iranian cities, leading to significant casualties. In response, Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory and US military assets across the Middle East.

As hostilities continue, diplomatic engagements like the Pezeshkian-Modi call signal ongoing efforts to explore pathways toward de-escalation, even as both sides remain firm on their positions.
