Vijay’s TVK to Contest All Seats as Tamil Nadu Poll Campaign Gains Momentum

Chennai, March 2026: With less than a month to go for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled on April 23, political activity across the state has intensified, with parties ramping up campaigns and outreach efforts. Adding a new dynamic to the contest, actor-turned-politician Vijay has announced that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, will contest all 234 constituencies independently.

The decision marks an assertive electoral debut for TVK in a political landscape traditionally dominated by Dravidian stalwarts. By opting to go solo, the party is positioning itself as a strong alternative force in the state’s competitive political arena.

As part of its campaign rollout, TVK is set to unveil its candidates at a major public meeting in Mamallapuram on March 27. Party sources indicate that Vijay will personally introduce the candidates and present the party’s vision and electoral roadmap, making the event a key milestone in its election preparations.

Speculation is also rife that Vijay may contest from the Perambur constituency, although an official announcement is yet to be made. His possible candidature has generated significant enthusiasm, particularly among youth and first-time voters, who form a core part of his support base.

The party is preparing to launch its full-scale campaign from March 28, with Vijay scheduled to address public meetings across several constituencies in Chennai, including Kolathur, Villivakkam, Anna Nagar and Virugambakkam. Authorities have reportedly permitted gatherings of up to 3,000 people at each venue.

However, the campaign has also faced certain restrictions. Requests to hold rallies in 12 additional constituencies were denied by the Election Commission of India due to regulatory constraints.

These curbs come in the wake of a tragic stampede in Karur on September 27, 2025, during one of Vijay’s public events, which claimed 41 lives. Following the incident, stringent crowd management guidelines were imposed by state authorities to ensure safety at large gatherings.

As the election date draws closer, Vijay’s entry and TVK’s aggressive strategy are expected to reshape the political narrative, even as established parties continue to consolidate their voter base across Tamil Nadu.
