FSSAI Cracks Down on Misleading Food Labels, Issues Notices to Several Brands
New Delhi, June 2026 : The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched action against several food companies over alleged violations of labelling norms, raising concerns about misleading brand names, product claims and trade descriptions that may deceive consumers.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the food regulator said it had served notices to multiple food business operators (FBOs) for possible violations of the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
“FSSAI has issued notices to several food business operators for violating provisions of the FSS Act regarding misleading brand names, trade names and product claims,” the regulator said in a post on social media platform X.
The companies that have received notices include Healthy Master, Neuherbs True Vitamin, Plant B, The Health Factory, Troovy, Healthy Choice, Emami’s Healthy & Tasty and Health Aid. Notices have also been sent to Organic Wisdom, Shine Organic, Two Brothers Organic Farms, Storia, World of Organic and Iota Water.
According to FSSAI, some brand names and product descriptions used by these companies may create inaccurate impressions regarding the health benefits, composition or certification status of their products.
The regulator specifically flagged trade names used by brands such as Healthy Master, The Health Factory, Healthy Choice, Emami’s Healthy & Tasty and Health Aid, stating that such names could potentially mislead consumers into believing that the products offer health benefits beyond what is scientifically established or permitted under regulations.
FSSAI also raised concerns over Troovy’s “Healthy Mix” chips. It noted that the use of the term “healthy” may be misleading if the product’s ingredients do not fully justify such a claim.
Similarly, the regulator questioned the branding of Neuherbs True Vitamin, stating that the term “True Vitamin” is neither recognised nor defined under existing food regulations and may create a misleading perception about the product’s characteristics.
The authority also examined the trade name “PLAN B Plant Based Vegan,” observing that it could give consumers the impression that the products are officially certified as vegan. However, FSSAI pointed out that the company had not obtained the required approvals or vegan food endorsements under the applicable regulations.
Separate notices were issued to Organic Wisdom, Shine Organic and Two Brothers Organic Farms regarding the use of the term “organic” in their brand names. FSSAI said these companies allegedly lacked mandatory certifications, the Jaivik Bharat logo, or necessary endorsements required to market products as organic.
The regulator stressed that all food businesses must strictly adhere to established labelling and display norms to ensure transparency and prevent consumer deception.
FSSAI’s latest action reflects its growing emphasis on accurate food labelling and informed consumer choice, as authorities intensify efforts to ensure that product names and claims remain compliant with regulatory standards and do not mislead the public.
