Vijay to File Nomination from Perambur, Raises Concerns Over Poll Fairness
Chennai, March 2027 : Actor-turned-politician Vijay, who heads the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is set to file his nomination papers on March 30 from the Perambur Assembly constituency, marking a significant step in his political journey. However, even before the formal launch of his campaign, Vijay has raised serious concerns about alleged administrative bias in the run-up to the elections.
On Saturday, Vijay met Archana Patnaik, the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu, at the State Secretariat and submitted a formal complaint. In his representation, he alleged that election authorities were denying permissions for campaign activities and acting in a partisan manner, thereby hindering his party’s outreach efforts.
The meeting comes at a crucial time as Vijay prepares to make his electoral debut in what is expected to be a closely contested seat in Perambur. He urged the Election Commission to grant immediate approvals for his campaign schedule, not just in Perambur but across Tamil Nadu, and called for intervention to ensure a level playing field for all parties.
Accompanying him was senior TVK leader K. A. Sengottaiyan, a former minister, who echoed the concerns and detailed specific instances of alleged obstruction. He claimed that a planned campaign event had to be cancelled despite the party following all prescribed procedures, including submitting prior notice within the stipulated timeframe.
According to Sengottaiyan, local authorities allegedly took steps that made it impossible to conduct the event, including placing barricades and digging pits around the venue. He described the actions as inconsistent and arbitrary, alleging that initial instructions were later reversed without explanation.
He further claimed that while other political parties appeared to receive smooth administrative support, TVK was facing repeated challenges in securing venues and permissions. “Not a single venue identified by us has been approved so far,” he said, suggesting that the hurdles could be an attempt to restrict the rise of a strong political contender.
Sources indicated that Vijay also requested a review of certain officials’ conduct and sought their replacement to ensure impartial enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
With his nomination filing just days away, Vijay is expected to kickstart his campaign immediately after March 30. His entry into the electoral fray is likely to add a new dimension to Tamil Nadu politics, setting the stage for an intense and closely watched contest in the upcoming Assembly elections.
